If you are an experienced senior risk management professional within commercial insurance and want the opportunity to build a function with genuine strategic influence, this is a rare chance to create and lead a UK-wide proposition from the ground up. You will be joining a global insurance broking group with the scale, client base and market reach to support a dynamic risk management practice. The role will give you the freedom to shape the strategy, develop the service proposition and work directly with clients to deliver practical, commercially relevant risk advice.

The opportunity This is a senior leadership role with a clear mandate to establish and grow the risk management capability across the UK. You will work closely with commercial broking teams and clients to identify where risk management can strengthen relationships, improve resilience and differentiate the wider insurance proposition. The scope is deliberately broad. You will have the opportunity to introduce new ideas, develop services around changing client needs and create a strategy that gives the function a clear identity and long-term direction.

What the role looks like Your responsibilities will include: Developing and implementing the UK risk management strategy. Building a consistent, high-quality client proposition across the commercial insurance portfolio. Providing senior-level risk management advice to clients across a wide range of sectors. Working with business owners, boards, operational teams and other senior stakeholders. Supporting broking teams with client retention, new business and wider consultancy opportunities. Overseeing risk assessments, surveys, consultancy work and broader loss prevention activity. Identifying opportunities to create new services and improve the client experience. Establishing appropriate processes, standards and reporting across the function. Building internal engagement and helping broking teams understand how to use risk management more effectively. Growing the practice over time and helping shape the resources needed to support that growth.

Who this could suit You will already have strong experience within commercial insurance risk management and should be operating at a senior level. You could come from a broker, insurer, consultancy or related environment, but you will need to understand how risk management fits into the wider commercial insurance relationship and how it can support both clients and broking teams. You should also have experience working with clients at multiple levels across a broad range of industries, trades and occupations, with the confidence to adapt your advice to different operational and commercial environments. Relevant professional qualifications are important, with backgrounds including CFPA, NEBOSH, IOSH or CBCI particularly relevant.

The business You will be joining a large international insurance broking group with a substantial commercial client base and the backing to invest in a high-quality risk management proposition. The attraction at this level is the opportunity to create something meaningful rather than simply maintain an established service. You will have visibility across the wider business, access to senior stakeholders and the chance to define how risk management contributes to client retention, differentiation and growth.

Package and location The salary is circa £100,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider senior-level benefits package. The role has a UK-wide remit, so there is flexibility around location for the right person. Travel to clients and different offices will naturally form part of the position.

The next step If you have senior-level commercial insurance risk management experience and want the opportunity to build, lead and shape a practice with genuine strategic importance, it would be worth a confidential conversation. I can talk you through the scope of the role, the existing capability and the level of autonomy available before you decide whether you want to explore it further.
