About the company

Skillseed is opening a rare opportunity to join us as a Community Building Fellow for one year.

Skillseed is a Singapore-based social enterprise that believes stronger communities begin with stronger relationships.

Since 2013, we've worked with public agencies, corporates and community partners to move beyond transactional engagement towards relationships grounded in dignity, empathy and trust.

Through our signature Resilience Trails™, community-building initiatives and experiential learning programmes, we bring people across different walks of life together, helping organisations and individuals recognise strengths, build connections and create meaningful change.

A team that values people as much as outcomes

Work alongside experienced, passionate and down-to-earth colleagues who believe that empathy, curiosity, authenticity and professionalism can coexist. We take our work seriously, but not ourselves too seriously!

And who knows? If mutual interest and opportunities arise, this fellowship could also be the beginning of a longer journey with Skillseed.

Your tasks

Step outside your usual professional world. Step into the world of communities.

Ever wondered what it would be like to work in the social impact sector, but weren't quite ready to make a full-time career switch?

Or perhaps you're at a crossroads in your professional journey, looking for a meaningful experience that broadens your perspectives, challenges your assumptions, and gives you the space to explore what's next?

This isn't simply another ad hoc job. It's an opportunity to step behind the scenes of a Singapore social enterprise, experience community building from the ground up, and discover how meaningful relationships, trust and collective action can transform communities.

Across three days a week, you'll contribute to real community-building initiatives while gaining exposure to people, perspectives and experiences beyond your usual professional circles.

Whether you're exploring a possible career transition, seeking a purposeful change of pace, or simply curious about the social impact ecosystem, this fellowship could be an enriching next chapter.

This is a hands-on fellowship, not an observation-only experience. You'll become part of our Community Building team, contributing meaningfully to the work while learning alongside our practitioners and community partners.

Your experience will span four areas

  1. Immerse Yourself in Communities
  • Step into neighbourhoods and engage with people from diverse backgrounds, including heartland merchants, home-based businesses, community volunteers and ground-up initiatives.
  • Discover the strengths, stories and relationships that shape our local communities.
  • Support our team in identifying, connecting with and nurturing relationships across neighbourhood ecosystems.
  1. Turn Real-World Experiences into Meaningful Insights
  • Observe and occasionally shadow our Resilience Trails™ and community engagement initiatives.
  • Capture stories, reflections, conversations and lessons from our Community Guides, stakeholders and participants.
  • Help us distill these experiences into practical insights and resources that inform how we build stronger communities.
  • You’ll also transmute data that we collect into evidence-backed stories.
  1. Experience the Social Impact Ecosystem from the Inside
  • Gain firsthand exposure to how a social enterprise collaborates with community organisations, public agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to volunteer engagement, recruitment and onboarding efforts.
  • Discover the opportunities and complexities of translating good intentions into meaningful, sustainable community action.
  1. Contribute to the Work That Makes Impact Possible
  • Support the coordination, documentation and tracking of community-building initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with our team to strengthen our processes, institutional knowledge and ways of working.
  • Bring your professional experience, fresh perspectives and ideas to help us continuously improve.

You'll be supported by our existing administrative, finance and resource teams, allowing you to focus on community engagement, learning and meaningful contributions.

Requirements

Who We'd Love to Meet We're especially keen to meet people who have spent some time in the corporate, public or professional sectors and are curious about experiencing a different kind of work environment.

You might be someone who is

  • Exploring a transition: Considering a move into social impact, community development or purpose-driven work, and looking for firsthand experience before taking the leap.
  • Seeking a different pace: Looking for meaningful work alongside other personal or professional priorities.
  • Bringing fresh perspectives: Keen to apply your professional skills in a different context while remaining open to learning, unlearning and growing.

We're looking for someone who is thoughtful, curious, relational, organised and comfortable engaging people from different backgrounds. Someone who listens well, takes initiative, enjoys learning and is equally willing to contribute to the practical work behind the scenes.

Around 2 to 5 years of professional experience is preferred, although we're open to candidates from other experience levels who resonate strongly with this opportunity.

You don't need to come from the social impact sector. In fact, we welcome perspectives from outside it.

What we offer

_An insider's perspective on the social impact sector_ Experience the opportunities, challenges and realities of community-building work from within an established social enterprise, rather than simply learning about them from the outside.

_Experiences that broaden your worldview_ Meet people from different walks of life, hear stories that challenge your assumptions, and gain a deeper appreciation of the communities around us.

_Learning that complements your professional experience_ Gain exposure to Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), relational engagement, qualitative observation, stakeholder engagement and practice-based organisational learning. These are capabilities that can enrich your work across corporate, public and social sectors.

_Space to explore your next chapter_ With a three-day work week, this fellowship offers room to pursue other interests, reflect on your professional direction or explore new possibilities, while remaining meaningfully engaged in purposeful work.
