Senior Software Engineer - Virtual Appraisals

Accountabilities: The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and enhance software solutions while contributing to platform modernization initiatives and improving system performance. This role requires strong technical ownership, collaboration, and a commitment to delivering reliable solutions.

Lead infrastructure modernization efforts, including upgrading and improving existing Ruby on Rails applications.

Identify, analyze, and resolve technical debt to improve application stability, maintainability, and long-term scalability.

Contribute to technical design discussions by providing recommendations, feedback, and innovative solutions.

Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to identify opportunities and solve complex technical challenges.

Participate in agile development practices, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous improvement activities.

Develop and maintain high-quality full-stack applications using modern engineering practices.

Design and optimize database structures, queries, and backend processes to improve application performance.

Support the development of scalable cloud-based solutions and infrastructure improvements.

Proactively identify risks, challenge assumptions, and suggest alternative approaches to improve outcomes.

Manage multiple initiatives during development cycles while maintaining strong attention to quality and delivery.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have strong full-stack development experience, a passion for technology, and the ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.

5+ years of experience in full-stack web development.

Strong experience with relational databases, database schema design, and writing efficient SQL queries.

Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.

Experience developing scalable server-side applications and understanding performance optimization challenges.

Previous experience with Ruby on Rails development.

Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React.

Experience working with technologies such as MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, Lambda, Docker, S3, or CloudFront is a plus.

Understanding of agile methodologies and collaborative software development practices.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Passion for building high-quality software and willingness to continuously learn new technologies.
