About the company

Description Dispatch Maintenance is a property maintenance company in Brisbane, Australia. We work exclusively for residential property managers, handling the repairs and upkeep on their rental properties. We are growing fast and need a dedicated estimator to turn job requests into accurate, fast quotes.

Our values (we hire to these)

  • Reliability: we do what we say, when we say. Quotes go out on time, every time.
  • Property Managers First: our clients are busy. Every quote should be clear, accurate and easy for them to approve.
  • No Shortcuts: we do the job properly. A quote that guesses low costs us later.
  • Honesty: if you are unsure, say so. If something is out of scope, flag it. We would rather know.

We run this business like a team that plays to win. If you care about getting it right and want to grow with a company, you will fit in well here.

Your tasks

  • Review job requests, photos and notes from property managers and our technicians
  • Estimate how long each job will take, by task and in total
  • List the materials needed, with quantities and current Australian pricing (Bunnings is our main supplier)
  • Build a clear, itemised quote ready for us to send
  • Flag anything that sits outside our scope so we can refer it on
  • Keep a growing price and time library so quotes get faster and more consistent

The type of work we quote

  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Plastering and wall patching
  • Ceiling resheeting
  • Door handles, locks, hinges and door adjustments
  • Recarpeting and floor coverings
  • Mould removal and treatment
  • Tile repairs, silicone and grout
  • Tap washers and basic fixture replacements
  • Blinds, fly screens, curtain rails and general fit-offs
  • Any other general handyman and minor repair work on rental homes

Our scope boundaries (you must know these)

  • Handyman work only. We do not do any licensed trade work: no electrical, no licensed plumbing, no gas
  • No roof work of any kind and nothing above gutter height
  • No structural work, wall removal or demolition

Requirements

What we are looking for

  • Real background in property maintenance, handyman work, building or renovation estimating
  • Practical knowledge of how long jobs actually take on site, not just theory
  • Strong understanding of materials, quantities and costing across many trades
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
  • Clear written English
  • Full availability Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm AEST, extending to 6pm AEST when the role moves to full time
  • Experience with Australian residential properties, rental maintenance or field service software (Fergus, Tradify, ServiceM8) is a strong advantage

Screening questions

  1. How long would it take to remove a standard internal bedroom door and hang a new one, including fitting the existing hinges and handle? List all materials needed.
  2. A bedroom wall has a 300mm hole in the plasterboard. How long would it take to patch, sand and repaint the full wall to a finish ready for a new tenant? List all materials and quantities.
  3. A bathroom ceiling of 2.4m x 1.8m has mould spots across about 30% of the surface. Describe your removal method, how long it takes and what materials are needed. When would you recommend resheeting instead of treating?
  4. A 3m x 3.6m bedroom ceiling has water damage and sagging plasterboard. How long would it take to remove and resheet it, ready for paint? List all materials and quantities.
