Summary: Under the general supervision of the Software Services Director and an assigned mentor, the AI Intern will gain hands on experience supporting the firm's artificial intelligence and technology initiatives. The intern will collaborate with members of the Information Technology team and other departments on short- and long-term projects involving artificial intelligence, technology, process improvement, research, documentation, and business operations.

The position is designed to provide meaningful work experience while allowing the AI intern to develop an understanding of how artificial intelligence can be evaluated and applied to support the firm's business objectives. Assignments will be based on business needs and opportunities for professional development.

Internship Eligibility: The BT R.I.S.E. Internship Program is designed to introduce students in specified fields of study to the day-to-day operations of a law firm. Candidate’s skill, knowledge, aptitude, and education will be considered during the selection process. To be eligible candidates must:

  • Entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in the Fall of 2027.
  • Enrolled in a 2-4 year undergraduate degree program at time of internship
  • Available to participate for 10 consecutive weeks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Information Technology team in completing projects and initiatives related to the evaluation, implementation, and use of artificial intelligence within the firm.
  • Assist with research and evaluation of artificial intelligence tools, technologies, and potential business use cases.
  • Collaborate with team members and business stakeholders to identify opportunities where artificial intelligence may improve processes, efficiency, knowledge management, or other business functions.
  • Assist with testing and evaluating AI tools and applications, documenting results, identifying issues, and communicating findings to team members.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining documentation, processes, procedures, and other materials related to the firm's use of artificial intelligence.
  • Support projects involving data, information, and other materials used in connection with AI initiatives, while following applicable firm policies and security requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to gain an understanding of the firm's business operations, technology, and the role of artificial intelligence in a professional services and law firm environment.
  • Collaborate with other departments and summer interns, where applicable
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of firm and client information and comply with applicable firm policies, procedures, and information security requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, data analytics, business, communications, or another field related to the internship.
  • Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, emerging technology, and technology enabled processes.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, systems, processes, and concepts quickly.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate information, identify patterns, and approach problems.
  • Strong research and problem solving skills, including the ability to explore unfamiliar topics and ask appropriate questions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally in person, by email, phone, and virtually.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and timely work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, follow established processes, and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and follow established firm policies, procedures, and information security requirements.

The following are helpful but are not required:

  • Coursework or experience involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer science, data analytics, information technology, or related fields.
  • Experience using generative AI tools or other AI applications.
  • Experience with research, process improvement, technology products, or business analysis
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, or other productivity tools

Working Conditions:

  • Onsite work required
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment
  • Specific work hours for this position will be assigned; generally, core business hours. The requirements may occasionally vary depending on the needs of the firm.
