About the company

We're looking for a dependable and experienced Senior Accountant to join an established accountancy practice in Stoke-on-Trent.

The role You'll be joining an established practice where accuracy, consistency and reliability are valued. The focus is on getting the day-to-day work done properly, looking after clients and supporting the team.

Your tasks

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys the practical side of accountancy, is confident managing their own workload and takes pride in producing accurate, well-prepared accounts and tax returns.

You'll work across a varied portfolio of clients, preparing year-end accounts, corporation tax computations, VAT returns and Self Assessment tax returns, alongside checking work completed by junior colleagues.

You'll also be a reliable point of contact for junior team members who need a bit of technical guidance or a second opinion.

Requirements

Experienced, accurate and happy to get stuck into the detail?

We're looking for someone who knows their stuff, has a methodical approach and is happy working through their workload efficiently and thoroughly. You'll be comfortable working independently, keeping on top of deadlines and maintaining consistent standards without needing lots of direction.

What matters most is that you're good at what you do, take pride in getting things right and enjoy being hands-on. You don't need to be chasing the next promotion or looking to overhaul the way things are done. We need someone who values doing a solid job, day in and day out.

• Solid experience in an accountancy practice, preparing accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Good working knowledge of VAT, Self Assessment and corporation tax.
• A careful eye for detail and the ability to spot inconsistencies before they become problems.
• A steady, organised approach to managing deadlines and a varied workload.
• Confidence reviewing figures and checking work prepared by others.
• A helpful, approachable manner when supporting junior colleagues.
• The ability to get on with the job, work independently and deliver consistently good work.

Experience with Xero and TaxCalc would be beneficial, alongside a relevant accountancy qualification such as AAT, ACCA or ACA.
