Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer – Switchgear to support commissioning activities for a major infrastructure project located in Tuas, Singapore .

The successful candidate will be responsible for the testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and energisation of electrical switchgear and associated power distribution equipment . Candidates should possess strong hands-on experience working with LV, MV and/or HV switchgear systems and be comfortable supporting commissioning activities in a project/site environment.

This is a 1-year contract position based at the Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) project in Tuas .

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, inspection, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for LV, MV and/or HV switchgear systems .
  • Conduct functional testing and verification of switchboards, switchgear panels, circuit breakers and associated electrical equipment.
  • Support switchgear energisation, shutdown, start-up and commissioning activities .
  • Perform electrical testing including insulation resistance, continuity, contact resistance and other applicable commissioning tests.
  • Conduct functional checks of circuit breakers, protection systems, interlocks, control circuits, trip circuits and indication circuits .
  • Verify electrical equipment installation against approved drawings, specifications, schematics and project requirements.
  • Read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control diagrams and technical drawings .
  • Perform troubleshooting and fault-finding on switchgear, control circuits and associated electrical systems during commissioning.
  • Identify commissioning issues and coordinate with engineering, construction, vendors and other project stakeholders to resolve technical problems.
  • Support testing and commissioning of associated equipment such as transformers, protection relays, electrical panels, MCCs and power distribution systems , where applicable.
  • Coordinate with switchgear manufacturers/vendors and subcontractors during site testing and commissioning.
  • Witness and/or participate in Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and other project-specific testing activities.
  • Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation including test reports, checklists, punch lists, commissioning records and technical reports.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are completed according to approved procedures, method statements and project schedules.
  • Ensure all activities comply with project Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, risk assessments and site coordination meetings when required.
  • Support the rectification and closure of electrical commissioning punch-list items.
  • Provide technical support during system handover and final acceptance.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Power Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant hands-on experience in electrical testing and commissioning .
  • Practical experience working with LV, MV and/or HV switchgear is essential.
  • Candidates with experience commissioning equipment from major switchgear manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Hitachi Energy, Mitsubishi Electric, Eaton, GE or equivalent manufacturers will be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of electrical power distribution systems and switchgear operating principles.
  • Familiarity with circuit breakers, protection relays, switchboards, control circuits, interlocking systems and electrical protection schemes .
  • Ability to read and understand SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams and electrical drawings .
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and fault-finding capability is required.
  • Experience with electrical testing equipment and commissioning tools will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience working on power plants, substations, utilities, industrial plants, waste-to-energy facilities, data centres, infrastructure projects or other large-scale electrical projects will be advantageous.
  • Experience working in an active construction, commissioning or plant environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety and safe working practices.
  • Able to coordinate effectively with engineers, contractors, vendors and project stakeholders.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary commissioning team.
  • Willing and able to work on-site in Tuas, Singapore for the duration of the project.
