Job Description

We are seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer – Switchgear to join a major infrastructure project based in Tuas, Singapore . This position is suitable for an electrical engineer with practical site experience who is looking to further develop their career in electrical testing and commissioning . The successful candidate will support the testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and energisation of LV, MV and/or HV switchgear and associated electrical equipment under the guidance of senior commissioning engineers and project leads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for LV, MV and/or HV switchgear systems .
  • Assist with functional testing of switchboards, switchgear panels, circuit breakers and associated electrical equipment.
  • Participate in switchgear energisation and commissioning activities .
  • Conduct basic electrical tests including insulation resistance, continuity and other required commissioning tests.
  • Perform functional checks on circuit breakers, interlocks, control circuits, trip circuits and indication systems .
  • Assist with testing and verification of protection relays and electrical protection systems.
  • Read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control drawings .
  • Support troubleshooting and fault-finding of switchgear and associated electrical systems.
  • Verify installed equipment against approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Assist senior engineers in identifying and resolving electrical commissioning issues.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, contractors and other engineering disciplines during commissioning.
  • Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and equipment testing activities.
  • Assist with testing of associated equipment such as transformers, MCCs, electrical panels and power distribution systems .
  • Prepare commissioning checklists, test reports, punch lists and other project documentation.
  • Support the closure of electrical commissioning punch-list items.
  • Follow approved commissioning procedures, method statements and project requirements.
  • Comply with all project Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and site coordination activities.
  • Support system handover and final commissioning documentation.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Power Engineering or related discipline.
  • Approximately 2–5 years of relevant electrical engineering, testing, commissioning or site experience preferred.
  • Candidates should have practical exposure to LV, MV and/or HV switchgear systems .
  • Hands-on switchgear testing, commissioning, maintenance or troubleshooting experience is highly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical power distribution systems, circuit breakers, switchboards and protection systems .
  • Ability to understand SLDs, schematics and electrical drawings .
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and commissioning tools would be advantageous.
  • Experience with equipment from ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Hitachi Energy, Mitsubishi Electric, Eaton, GE or similar manufacturers would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience within power plants, substations, utilities, waste-to-energy facilities, industrial plants, data centres or infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
  • Comfortable working in a construction and commissioning site environment.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to coordinate effectively with senior engineers, technicians, contractors and equipment vendors.
  • Willing to work on-site in Tuas, Singapore .
