Major duties

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position. Responds to taxpayer's inquiries regarding preparation of a variety of tax returns, related schedules and other documentation; resolves account inquiries; advises taxpayers of enforcement actions; manages sensitive case problems designated as requiring special case handling. Analyzes and resolves tax processing problems. Adjusts taxpayer accounts, prepares and issues manual refunds, performs multiple credit transfers, computes tax, penalty, and interest (including restricted interest). Secures payment of delinquent taxes and filing of delinquent returns. Recommends lien and/or levy action, includes initiating supporting information for release. May serve as a technical advisor, OJT coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer, and provide technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in IRMs. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-05 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position: Researching online systems to determine the correct course of action; Reviewing and processing documents and utilizing automated systems to correct and adjust accounts. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years of education above high school level in any field of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university.

GS-06 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position must include: Performing multiple processing tasks involving researching tax information to extract relevant facts and/or missing/unclear accounting information. Analyzing and resolving problems, utilizing automated systems to correct and adjust accounts, computing basic interest and managing an inventory. Responding to taxpayer inquiries, resolving accounts, analyzing tax processing problems and secure payments of delinquent taxes.

GS-07 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position must include: Performing multiple processing tasks involving researching and interpreting tax and account information to address a variety of issues, past transactions, and extracting relevant facts and/or missing/unclear accounting information. Analyzing and resolving problems, utilizing automated systems to correct and adjust accounts, computing basic and/or complex interest, applying regulations, procedures, established guidelines and controlling/managing an inventory. Working and communicating with a team which may include coaching, reviewing work or sharing best practices.

AND You must also meet the following requirement(s):

TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT (TACA): By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. TIME IN GRADE (TIG): For positions above the GS-05, applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the grade you are applying for. For positions at the GS-05, you cannot advance to the GS-05 if you have held a GS-02 in the past 52 weeks. There is no TIG restriction for GS-02, 03 or 04 positions. Education

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
