[What you will be working on]

The Singpass team builds Singapore’s digital identity system. This includes various personal authentication protocols, data sharing tools, and corporate identity systems through Corppass. The team’s mission is to provide a world-class, and secure national digital identity for seamless everyday experiences.

The Data Platform team builds and operates the foundational data capabilities that power Singpass products and services. The platform enables secure, reliable, and scalable data ingestion, processing, governance, and analytics, supporting operational intelligence, fraud detection, real-time decision-making, and data-driven product innovation.

As an Engineering Manager at GovTech, you will:

Aim: Set Direction

Lead design and architecture reviews to ensure your team consistently delivers scalable, secure solutions.

Contribute to setting the technical direction for your team in collaboration with Product, Design and other stakeholders,ensuring that solutions align with the organisation’s quality, security, and scalability standards. Collaborate with Product and UX partners to shape the squad’s technical and delivery goals

Balance new feature delivery with technical sustainability, maintainability, and risk mitigation.

Bring strong technical judgment — helping engineers navigate design and architecture trade-offs in alignment with long-term goals

Drive delivery excellence and system reliability by leveraging operational metrics, incident trends, and DataOps signals (e.g. data freshness, schema drift) to inform technical decisions and prioritise engineering improvements. Use metrics (e.g., delivery velocity, incident trends, performance) to guide decisions and improve flow

Assemble: Build and Support the Team

Build a high-performing, lean team with the right mix of skills, experience, and growth potential

Cultivate a culture of ownership by creating opportunities for engineers to tackle meaningful challenges, lead initiatives, and drive outcomes. Coach and develop your engineers through 1:1s, feedback, and career growth planning

Drive technical excellence across Singpass by setting high standards for system design, code quality, and software engineering practices, while mentoring engineers to consistently deliver high-quality solutions. Ensure the team ships high-quality software predictably, and improves over time

Partner with team to drive technical decision-making and architecture reviews, ensuring scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions. Support technical decision-making and architecture reviews, with support from team.

Monitor delivery health, reliability, and tech debt — and address root causes, not just symptoms

Improve Developer Experience (DevX) and reduce friction through better tools, processes, or team rituals

[What we're looking for]

Able to apply deep expertise in event-driven architectures by designing and operating scalable event-driven systems and stream processing solutions, modelling complex event flows to enable fraud detection, product insights, business intelligence, and real-time capabilities such as feature stores.

You have the ability to provide strong technical leadership and mentorship by offering clear technical guidance, promoting engineering best practices, and empowering engineers through ownership, autonomy, and effective delegation. You are a technically credible leader — able to support architecture discussions, unblock delivery, and earn the trust of your team

You stay close to the technical details — whether through architecture reviews, design docs, code reviews, or hands-on support when needed
