Job purpose

A world leader in air cargo, we have a geographical advantage that enables us to reach over 140 destinations across six continents. We can cater to two-thirds of the world’s population in just eight hours and serve major international trade regions quickly and efficiently. Our SkyCargo group works in partnership to facilitate global trade and connect customers with their destinations. We have a young, efficient, wide-bodied fleet with ample capacity to transport cargo through our state-of-the-art, multi-airport hub in Dubai and adapt to our customers’ ever-changing needs.

The Freighter Scheduling Manager will schedule both short- and long-term operations to optimise aircraft utilisation, taking into consideration commercial requirements, slot constraints at Level 2 and 3 airports, maintenance, crewing requirements, and other factors that impact freighter operations. The role will devise annual operating plans for the freighter network, ensuring optimal commercial returns, quality standards, and capacity utilisation at minimal cost, thereby optimising the profitability of freighter operations.

In this role, you will

  • Devise annual operating plans for the freighter fleet, taking into consideration current freighter capacity and future capacity increases, to achieve maximum utilisation and optimal profitability. Communicate the operating plan to relevant internal departments in a timely manner.
  • Manage slot constraints at key airports and ensure historic slots are maintained to maximise market opportunities without compromising aircraft utilisation or operational efficiency. Secure the most desirable airport slots to maintain a commercial advantage.
  • Develop a freighter hub at DWC airport, taking into consideration current historic slots and night curfews at outstation locations. Provide optimal, customer-oriented transit times for east-to-west traffic while considering infrastructure limitations at DWC airport and allowing for future fleet additions.
  • Ensure current and future operating plans provide adequate time for major engineering and maintenance checks (A and C checks) on aircraft at DXB airport, without adversely affecting schedule integrity. Consider both EK’s own operations and the outstation-based maintenance requirements of wet-lease providers.
  • Ensure all freighter-specific requirements are incorporated into the AirVision Sabre Scheduling system by liaising with the Manager, Cargo Scheduling and Planning, and IT to achieve optimal efficiency through the scheduling and slot management systems.
  • Integrate the freighter schedule planning system to generate SSIM files that can be automated with other key systems, such as SkyChain, CORE, LIDO, POWER, and RPS, as well as other systems under development. Work with IT and other sections and departments to develop and implement operating-plan-related systems efficiently, including changes to plans. Continuously monitor and enhance automated freighter schedule dissemination to other internal systems.
  • Collaborate with internal and external departments and organisations to obtain or renew the necessary operating permits and approvals for scheduled and ad hoc freight operations. Disseminate the information to relevant departments to facilitate the required flights.
  • Liaise with the Crewing department to analyse crew-related complexities and identify cost-effective solutions. Ensure scheduled and ad hoc flights are adequately crewed to maintain flight schedule integrity.
  • Ensure detailed cost and revenue analyses are conducted for every schedule diversion and new rotation to achieve an optimal P&L and contribute to freighter profitability.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or honours degree, with professional knowledge of airline or cargo operations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with scheduling systems.
  • Completion of all relevant industry- or airline-approved advanced cargo acceptance, handling, and load planning courses.
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic planning, taking into consideration key factors that influence air cargo.
  • Advanced knowledge of cargo systems and Microsoft Office packages.
