Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced PMC commissioning engineer (process) with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry for ADNOC onshore client to be based in Abu Dhabi within our oil, gas & new energies business.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based at onshore site in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The role

Responsible for monitoring, coordinating, reviewing, and supporting pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, performance testing, and handover of process and utility systems for ADNOC onshore oil & gas facilities. The engineer acts as the PMC technical focal point between ADNOC, EPC contractor, engineering, construction, operations, vendors and subcontractors, ensuring safe execution in accordance with project specifications, ADNOC requirements and approved commissioning procedures.

Key responsibilities

Review and approve commissioning philosophies, procedures, method statements, test packs and commissioning schedules

Review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, cause & effect diagrams, operating philosophies and commissioning sequences

Support systemization and subsystem definition for commissioning and turnover

Monitor EPC contractor activities for:

Mechanical completion (MC)

Pre-commissioning

Ready for commissioning (RFC)

Ready for start-up (RFSU)

Start-up and performance testing

Verify that systems are complete and safe before introducing utilities, hydrocarbons or process fluids

Monitor pre-commissioning activities such as flushing, cleaning, blowing, drying, leak testing and reinstatement

Review and verify commissioning test results and associated inspection & test records

Participate in system walkdowns, MC inspections and final acceptance inspections

Monitor and drive closure of A/B/C punch items, ensuring critical punch items are closed before commissioning/start-up

Coordinate commissioning activities with operations, construction, engineering, HSE, QA/QC and other disciplines

Coordinate with vendors/OEMs and licensors during critical testing and start-up

Monitor EPC contractor performance against approved commissioning schedule and milestones

Review daily/weekly commissioning reports, progress curves, look-ahead schedules and commissioning constraints

Identify commissioning risks, technical problems and interfaces and ensure timely resolution

Review site technical queries, deviations and proposed modifications affecting commissioning

Ensure all changes made during commissioning are properly documented and reflected in as-built documentation

Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIMOPS, PSSR and operational readiness activities as applicable

Ensure compliance with PTW, LOTO, isolation, gas testing and ADNOC HSE requirements

Support troubleshooting during equipment/system testing, energization and start-up

Review commissioning dossiers, turnover packages, certificates, test records and final handover documentation

Ensure smooth handover of completed systems to ADNOC operations and maintenance

Expected qualifications and experience

Bachelor's degree in chemical/process, mechanical or related engineering

Approximately 10–15+ years of oil & gas experience for senior positions

Strong experience in onshore oil & gas commissioning

Previous ADNOC/Abu Dhabi project experience is highly advantageous

Previous PMC/EPCM experience preferred

Strong knowledge of process systems and commissioning methodology

Working knowledge of API, ASME, IEC, ISO and project/company standards

Experience with completion management systems is highly valuable
