Group Financial Accountant

£70,000–£80,000 + Benefits (Including Electric Car Scheme)

Gillingham, Kent – Hybrid Working (4 Days Office / 1 Day Home)

We're supporting a large, established and growing business that is looking to appoint an experienced Group Financial Accountant to join its finance team.

This is a technically focused role within a sizeable, multi-entity organisation, taking ownership of statutory reporting, group consolidations, audit and tax compliance.

This is a largely autonomous role within an experienced finance team, offering genuine ownership of the Group's technical accounting, statutory reporting and compliance requirements. You'll work closely with senior finance stakeholders while having the independence to manage your responsibilities and contribute to wider improvements across the function.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, you'll work across multiple entities, managing external advisors, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and supporting improvements to financial processes and reporting.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of accounting and wants genuine ownership within a large, established business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual statutory accounts across the Group, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Manage the transition to FRS 102, including relevant revenue recognition and lease accounting requirements
  • Oversee group consolidations, impairment assessments and going concern reviews
  • Lead the annual external audit, acting as the main point of contact for auditors and tax advisors
  • Review and submit quarterly VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Manage Corporation Tax submissions, capital allowances and wider HMRC matters
  • Maintain strong balance sheet reconciliations, audit documentation and financial controls
  • Review and improve statutory reporting processes, identifying opportunities for greater efficiency
  • Support wider finance projects and work closely with the Group Financial Controller and senior finance team

What We're Looking For

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) – essential
  • Strong technical accounting background, ideally combining practice and industry experience
  • Previous experience within a large, complex or multi-entity organisation – essential
  • Excellent knowledge of FRS 102, UK GAAP and statutory reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of VAT, Corporation Tax and wider tax compliance
  • Experience managing external audits and preparing statutory accounts
  • Confident working with group consolidations and complex accounting matters
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to investigate and resolve technical accounting issues
  • Someone proactive, independent and comfortable taking ownership of a largely standalone role

Why Join?

This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a technically challenging finance role within a large, established business. You'll benefit from working closely with an experienced finance team while having the autonomy to manage your own responsibilities and influence how the Group approaches statutory reporting and compliance.
