Third Officer

Your tasks

The Third Officer reports to the Master for navigational duties and to the Chief Officer for deck and cargo operations. The roles and responsibilities include but not limited to:

a) Navigation and Watchkeeping

• Responsible for creating and executing passage plans, ensuring the safe navigation of the vessel from one port to another.
• Maintains navigational watches at sea and in port
• Ensures all navigational equipment is in good order and regularly serviced.

b) Cargo Operations

• Oversees the loading, stowage, and discharge of cargo, particularly focusing on safety and efficiency.
• Assists the Chief Officer in cargo and ballast operations.

c) Safety, Security and Emergency Response

• Responsible for maintaining safety and lifesaving systems, including firefighting equipment and emergency escape devices.
• Participates in emergency response procedures and may be in charge of a lifeboat during rescue operations.
• Ensures compliance with ISPS security levels and international regulations

d) Medical Duties

• Acts as the ship's medical officer, providing medical care and maintaining the medical locker according to regulations.

e) Documentation and Compliance

• Maintains various logs and records, including navigational logs and medical logs.
• Ensures compliance with safety management systems (SMS), port regulations, and international maritime standards.

f) Environmental Protection

• Assists in measures to prevent pollution and reduce environmental impact.

g) Supervision and Training

• Supervises junior crew members and new personnel in safety and vessel familiarization. He shall assist Master and Chief Officer, and be engaged in duties of the Deck Department under their directions.
