About our group:

The Equipment Development Engineering group (EDE) of Seagate Technology is expanding the team! We welcome aspiring Automation Alchemist Enthusiasts to check out this awesome opportunity! Our vision is to innovate and develop advanced, intelligent, automated manufacturing equipment solutions that can sense, analyze, make smart decisions, and learn by themselves. The EDE is a fully integrated equipment development team; we design and develop precision and fully automated assembly equipment and vision inspection machines. The team is made up of a strongly cohesive high performing team of design talents with a diversity of talents specialized in mechanical, embedded systems, electrical, software, and vision disciplines. We strive to constantly incorporate IIOT, AI, machine learning image, and data analytics solutions into all our development, enabling our equipment to realize factory smart intelligence, thus creating a high-tech future-ready Physical AI plant. We seek dedicated, motivated, and creative talented teammates, who take up the new automation directives to provide turnkey solutions, integrating functionality, automation & intelligence for Drive Assembly, Drive Test, Heads, Media Manufacture Automation & Enterprise Data Solutions. Many of our designs have won a variety of innovation awards, and patents on both the Company and International levels. We welcome any interested candidates that possess this mindset to embark on this exciting journey in challenging the future roadmaps.

About the role - you will:

  • Lead full lifecycle mechanical development from concept, requirements, and architecture through detailed design, build, validation, installation, commissioning, and production handoff.
  • Define system and subsystem requirements, acceptance criteria, interfaces, design margins, and technical risk controls.
  • Develop and review machine layouts, precision mechanisms, structures, motion systems, tooling, guarding, and service-access concepts.
  • Perform or direct advanced calculations, simulations, tolerance analyses, experiments, and design verification activities.
  • Lead formal design reviews, risk assessments, technical trade studies, and configuration-change decisions.
  • Coordinate mechanical activities across electrical, controls, software, process, manufacturing, quality, safety, and supplier teams.
  • Lead complex root-cause investigations involving interacting mechanical, electrical, control, process, or manufacturing factors.
  • Own technical planning, resource estimates, risks, milestones, and deliverables for assigned projects or workstreams.
  • Develop equipment documentation, including specifications, test plans, reports, drawings, manuals, preventive-maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Drive equipment reliability, yield, throughput, serviceability, standardization, and cost improvement programs.
  • Evaluate supplier capability, review technical proposals, and guide qualification of critical components or assemblies.
  • Mentor P1 and P2 engineers, provide technical feedback, and promote disciplined engineering methods and knowledge sharing.

About you:

  • Demonstrated success leading machine-level or complex system development from concept through deployment.
  • Strong capability in design analysis, validation planning, root-cause analysis, and technical risk management.
