About the company

We’re working with a well-established, growing business to recruit an Accounts Payable Specialist who can take ownership of a portfolio of supplier accounts and play a key role in maintaining an accurate, efficient and well-controlled finance operation.

Why consider this opportunity? You’ll join a business with ambitious growth plans and an appreciation of the role that operational excellence plays in its success. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your supplier portfolio, work with experienced finance colleagues and contribute ideas that improve the way the AP function operates.

For someone who enjoys a hands-on role, values accuracy and wants to build on their experience in a structured, performance-focused environment, this is an opportunity to make your mark.

Your tasks

This is more than processing invoices. You’ll be at the heart of the business’s day-to-day operations, helping suppliers get paid on time, resolving issues before they become bigger problems, and ensuring the financial processes behind a successful consumer-facing business run smoothly.

The opportunity You’ll take ownership of the end-to-end accounts payable cycle for an assigned portfolio of suppliers, working across multiple entities and currencies in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.

From accurate invoice posting and supplier statement reconciliations to clearing aged transactions and improving processes, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the team’s performance.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Finance, Supply Chain and wider business teams, helping maintain clean ledgers, strong financial controls and a reliable supply base.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own supplier accounts: Manage your portfolio, reconcile balances and proactively resolve aged items, discrepancies and outstanding queries in line with weekly KPIs.
  • Process invoices accurately: Handle supplier invoices across multiple entities and currencies, ensuring correct nominal ledger coding, appropriate tax treatment and three-way matching where required.
  • Keep payments on track: Maintain an up-to-date pending invoices log, chase outstanding approvals and missing information, and help minimise invoice processing delays.
  • Reconcile supplier statements: Complete monthly reconciliations on time, investigate differences and follow through until issues are resolved.
  • Support employee expenses: Process expense claims when required, ensuring compliance with policy and timely reimbursement.
  • Provide meaningful reporting: Produce accurate ad-hoc reports, highlighting aged transactions, unmatched purchase orders, emerging risks and other issues requiring attention.
  • Maintain robust controls: Follow approval procedures, prevent duplicate payments, maintain data quality and provide accurate documentation to support audit requirements.
  • Improve how things work: Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency without compromising control.
  • Work as part of a wider team: Provide cover across entities, collaborate with internal stakeholders and escalate issues promptly when additional support is needed.

Requirements

Are you an experienced Accounts Payable professional who takes pride in getting the numbers right, building strong supplier relationships and keeping things moving?

If you’re organised, proactive and enjoy taking responsibility for your work, this could be an excellent next step.

What we’re looking for You’ll already have solid experience in a purchase ledger or accounts payable role and be comfortable managing transactions from initial processing through to reconciliation and resolution.

You’ll also bring

  • Proven hands-on experience in purchase ledger or a similar transactional finance role.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) for invoice processing and financial transactions.
  • A good understanding of nominal ledger coding, supplier reconciliations and invoice matching.
  • Experience working with multiple entities, currencies or sites; exposure to European subsidiaries or a retail environment would be advantageous.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, with the ability to reconcile data, investigate discrepancies and produce clear, accurate reports.
  • A sound understanding of AP controls, approval workflows, duplicate prevention and audit requirements.

Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who takes ownership. You follow things through rather than leaving them unresolved, pay attention to the detail without losing sight of deadlines, and communicate confidently with suppliers and colleagues.

The kind of person who will thrive You’re naturally organised, conscientious and comfortable managing competing priorities. You enjoy solving problems, can spot when something doesn’t look right, and know when to investigate independently and when to escalate.

You’re also a collaborative team player who looks for better ways of working. Whether that means reducing aged items, improving the accuracy of supplier data or identifying opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, you’re motivated by making a positive difference.

You don’t simply work through a queue of invoices — you take responsibility for keeping the process accurate, efficient and moving forward.
