Accountabilities The Hardware Technician will take ownership of advanced hardware operations, infrastructure support, and technical leadership within large-scale data center environments. This role requires strong troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and remote support partners.

Lead complex hardware installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities for servers, network devices, and mainframe equipment in secure data center environments.

Act as a technical escalation point for challenging hardware issues, performing advanced diagnostics and driving effective resolutions.

Manage server implementation, decommissioning projects, rack and stack activities, and infrastructure changes while maintaining operational standards.

Design and maintain rack layouts, raised floor plans, cabinet configurations, and connectivity plans to support infrastructure growth.

Coordinate remote data center operations and collaborate with local support teams to ensure efficient execution of technical tasks.

Mentor junior technicians by sharing best practices around installation procedures, troubleshooting techniques, documentation, and data center operations.

Perform root cause analysis on recurring hardware problems and implement preventative solutions to improve reliability.

Maintain accurate documentation of hardware configurations, cable layouts, incidents, and resolutions within ticketing systems.

Manage third-party vendor activities, ensuring service-level agreements, maintenance requirements, and operational expectations are met.

Validate equipment power connections, cabling standards, labeling practices, and infrastructure readiness across data center environments.

Support operating environments including UNIX, Windows, cloud infrastructure, and legacy mainframe technologies.

Provide on-site technical support and leadership at local data center facilities when required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced hardware professional with strong data center expertise, advanced troubleshooting skills, and the ability to independently manage technical projects while supporting team development.

5+ years of experience in data center hardware operations with demonstrated technical leadership responsibilities.

Extensive hands-on knowledge of server components, computer hardware internals, network equipment, and infrastructure troubleshooting.

Advanced experience with fiber and copper cabling, structured cabling standards, and connectivity management.

Strong understanding of raised-floor data center operations, including power distribution, cooling requirements, environmental controls, and security practices.

Experience supporting mainframe environments and technologies such as AS/400 and S/390.

Proven ability to diagnose complex hardware failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective actions.

Knowledge of hardware specifications related to power, cooling, and infrastructure capacity planning.

Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor junior team members and collaborate effectively with vendors and stakeholders.

Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and lead technical initiatives with limited supervision.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in raised-floor data center environments.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred qualifications include certifications such as A+, Network+, Server+, or CCNA; experience with IT service management practices; familiarity with DCIM tools; and exposure to virtualization and cloud platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
