Damp & Mould Surveyor – South East London Location: South East London Pay: £25.23 PAYE / £31.74 Umbrella per hour Hours: 35 hours per week Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Contract: Initial 3-month contract Start Date: ASAP IR35: Inside IR35 Opportunity: Potential extension or permanent opportunity Damp & Mould Surveyor VNA Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Damp & Mould Surveyor to join a busy property and housing team within a large public sector organisation in South East London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced property professional with strong technical knowledge of damp, mould, condensation and building defects . You will be responsible for inspecting residential properties, diagnosing the causes of damp and mould, identifying building defects and specifying appropriate remedial works. You will also oversee works through to completion, ensuring repairs are completed to the required standard. The role involves regular contact with residents, so a professional, empathetic and solutions-focused approach is essential. There is also potential for the contract to be extended or for the position to become permanent . The Role As a Damp & Mould Surveyor, your responsibilities will include: Carrying out detailed property inspections relating to damp, mould and condensation Diagnosing the root causes of damp and moisture-related problems Identifying different types of damp and mould and recommending appropriate remedial action Assessing how building structures, ventilation and property conditions contribute to damp issues Identifying general building defects during property inspections Using specialist diagnostic and surveying equipment Supporting seasonal monitoring and further investigations where required Producing drawings and floor plans where necessary Preparing detailed specifications for remedial and improvement works Raising and ordering works through appropriate systems and contract procedures Obtaining competitive prices for repair and improvement works Liaising with contractors and external partners Supervising works through to completion Carrying out post-work inspections Confirming that completed works meet the required quality standards Authorising payments where appropriate Investigating invoice queries and discrepancies Ensuring works provide appropriate quality and value for money Maintaining accurate inspection, repair and case records Managing a varied caseload and meeting agreed deadlines Responding professionally to resident enquiries and complaints About You To be considered for this position, you should have: Strong previous experience working as a Damp Surveyor, Damp & Mould Surveyor or Building Surveyor Excellent knowledge of damp, mould and condensation diagnosis Strong understanding of different types of damp and their causes Knowledge of different types of mould and the factors contributing to mould growth Understanding of the potential impact of damp and mould on residents Strong technical knowledge of residential building structures and common property defects Ability to accurately diagnose building defects and recommend appropriate remedial works Experience using specialist surveying and diagnostic equipment Ability to produce technical drawings and floor plans where required Experience preparing detailed works specifications Experience ordering and managing property repair works Experience supervising contractors Experience carrying out post inspections and assessing completed works Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent organisation and workload-management skills Ability to manage multiple cases and work to strict deadlines Confidence working independently Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience working effectively with contractors, residents and partner organisations Resident-Focused Approach A strong resident focus is essential for this role. You will regularly work with residents experiencing difficult housing conditions, including issues involving damp, mould and property defects.
