About the Position: Serves as the point of contact on matters relating to health benefits programs available to eligiblebeneficiaries. Provides information and assistance based upon personal, written, or telephoneinquires concerning both inpatient and outpatient medical care under the USHBP and medical carefrom civilian sources under the TRICARE program.

Major duties

  • Provides information and assistance based upon personal, written, or telephone inquires concerning both inpatient and outpatient medical care
  • Explains the order of priority of entitlement to benefits from other sources such as VA, dental programs, Medicare, Medicaid, FEHBP, and insurance through employment and/or private insurance.
  • Maintains a continuing cooperative relationship with various agencies to include Office of the Lead Agent, other military Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs), and fiscal intermediaries
  • Provides advisory services on benefits offered through the TRICARE program
  • Explains issues to consumers that affect rates, payments, entitlements, waivers, and reconsideration rights
  • Serves as the Debt Collection Assistance Officer (DCAO) and follows up and investigates claims in accordance with program guidance.
  • Provides benefit briefings to eligible beneficiaries at various installation functions such as military retirement briefings, newcomer’s briefings, commander’s calls, and spouse orientations.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service in serving as point of contact on matters relating to health benefits programs available to eligible beneficiaries by providing detailed advice on the benefits covered information concerning available medical services and related matters.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
