The Role:

The Director, Medical Strategy & Field Engagement will serve as a strategic, externally facing Medical Affairs leader, responsible for executing medical strategies while building meaningful relationships with key scientific stakeholders. This role combines medical strategy with direct scientific engagement, ensuring that external insights shape evidence generation, clinical development, and medical affairs plans.

The incumbent will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, Market Access, Publications, Medical Information, Safety, Health Outcomes, and Field Medical Affairs to refine integrated medical plans, scientific narratives, evidence generation strategies, and engagement activities. The role will also engage directly with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, and healthcare providers to gather insights, support scientific exchange, and advance Syndax medical and research priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Strategy & Cross-Functional Leadership

Lead the execution and contribute to the development of Medical Affairs strategic and tactical plans aligned with product, disease area, and corporate objectives.

Serve as the Medical Affairs representative on cross-functional product and brand teams, translating internal priorities and external insights into actionable medical plans and deliverables.

Develop and maintain integrated scientific narratives based on disease state knowledge, clinical evidence, competitive landscape, and future development opportunities.

Partner with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and other stakeholders to identify evidence gaps and develop integrated evidence-generation plans, including investigator-sponsored research and company-sponsored studies.

Contribute medical and scientific expertise to clinical development plans, trial designs, publications planning, and lifecycle management activities.

External Scientific Engagement & KOL Management

Develop and maintain strategic relationships with KOLs, investigators, disease experts, and healthcare providers in academic and community settings.

Conduct high-level scientific exchange on disease state, clinical data, emerging evidence, and Syndax assets.

Identify and profile key scientific leaders, institutions, and research networks that support Syndax medical and clinical development objectives.

Serve as a trusted scientific partner to external stakeholders while maintaining scientific credibility and compliance with company policies.

Insight Generation & Evidence Development

Lead planning and execution of insight-generation activities, including advisory boards, scientific input exchanges, congress interactions, and investigator meetings.

Gather, analyze, and communicate actionable field insights related to clinical practice, competitive developments, emerging science, and patient management trends.

Synthesize external insights to inform medical strategy, evidence-generation priorities, and cross-functional decision-making.

Support identification of clinical trial sites and investigators while providing scientific partnership for ongoing and future clinical research.

Scientific Communications & Congress Leadership

Represent Medical Affairs on congress planning committees and contribute to development of congress strategy and engagement plans.

Represent Syndax at scientific congresses, advisory boards, and other external engagements, gathering insights and advancing scientific relationships.

Organizational Leadership

Act as a subject matter expert across disease areas, competitive landscapes, and Syndax therapeutic assets.

Mentor and support development of Medical Affairs colleagues, contributing to training, scientific excellence, and best practices.

Represent Syndax on internal and external governance committees and strategic initiatives as needed.

Desired Experience/Education and Personal Attributes:

Advanced degree required: MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent.

6–8+ years of progressive experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Field Medical, or related biopharmaceutical roles, with meaningful oncology and/or hematology experience.

Demonstrated experience executing medical strategies and evidence-generation initiatives.

Experience engaging with KOLs, investigators, and research institutions in scientific exchange and relationship management.

Strong understanding of clinical development, medical affairs, and oncology/hematology treatment landscapes.

Proven ability to influence across a matrix organization and drive cross-functional collaboration.

Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and project management skills.

Launch experience in IPF or pulmonology preferred.

Willingness to travel regularly for KOL engagement, congress participation, advisory boards, and internal meetings.

Location : While our corporate headquarters are located in New York City, this position is open to candidates from any location with a preference for east coast locations.
