Structural Steel Fabrication Inspector Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shift: First Shift Starting Pay: Up to $32.00 per hour (compensation is based on experience) Position Overview We are looking for a Structural Steel Fabrication Inspector to help ensure fabricated products meet quality expectations throughout the manufacturing process. This hands-on position involves inspecting structural steel components, welds, coatings, and raw materials while verifying compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry standards. The ideal candidate has a background in structural steel fabrication, understands welding codes, and is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities Inspect fabricated structural steel components throughout the production process.

Verify compliance with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable quality standards.

Inspect incoming steel, materials, parts, and welding consumables for conformance.

Identify, document, and track inspected materials following established quality procedures.

Maintain inspection reports, quality records, and production documentation.

Calibrate and maintain inspection equipment and welding-related quality tools.

Assist with welder qualification and certification testing.

Support training efforts related to welding, fitting, inspection, and quality procedures.

Maintain drawing control and other quality management documentation.

Work with production and leadership teams to resolve quality issues and improve manufacturing processes.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and company training programs.

Promote safe work practices and follow all workplace safety requirements.

Qualifications Required

Minimum 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.

Experience in quality control, inspection, or a related manufacturing position.

Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and related structural steel standards.

Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.

Experience using quality inspection tools, including:

Fillet weld gauges

V-WAC gauges

Squares

Tape measures

Standard quality inspection equipment

Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently.

Commitment to producing quality work while maintaining a safe work environment.

Preferred

Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.

Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including:

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Penetrant Testing (PT)

Additional certifications related to structural steel fabrication, coatings, bolting, or welding inspection.

Previous experience in a structural steel or heavy manufacturing environment.

Work Environment Shop-floor manufacturing environment with limited office work.

Non-climate-controlled facility.

Frequent standing, walking, and inspecting materials throughout the shift.
