Recreation Assistant (Golf)
About the position: The primary purpose of this position is to assist with events, lessons, and pro shop operations (i.e. - merchandise orders) in the role of an assistant golf professional for the 35th FSS Gosser Golf Course, Misawa AB, Japan. This is a Flexible category position; guaranteed 0 hours per week but may work up to 40 hours per week depending on the needs of the facility. Military Spouse Preference is not lost if selected for this position.
Major duties
Performs and/or assists in the operation and maintenance of the golf course pro shop, driving range, course starter, course marshal, cart rental, and club storage. Provides patron guidance for selection of golf equipment and merchandise. Recommends appropriate level of golf instruction to interested patrons and sets up demo days, provides individual and group lessons, conducts leagues, facility, and private organization tournaments, and other special events as necessary. Encourages patron interest in scheduled golf events and tournaments. Schedules tee times, golf clinics, lessons and tournaments. Assists patrons with golf club rental, assigns golf carts, sells pro-shop merchandise, processes patron special orders, and demonstrates equipment usage and techniques. Explains course safety rules and regulations to patrons. Orders, receives and logs merchandise and creates merchandise displays. Ensures all sales, fees and charges are rung up on the cash register. Responsible for maintaining the pro shop in a neat, clean and orderly condition. Ensures only authorized patrons use golf course and facilities. Must be able to work an irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and holidays. Performs other related duties as assigned. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Experience which provides a basic knowledge and understanding of golf course operations including the USGA rules of golf and handicapping, equipment sale and repair, tournament organization and software. Experience in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit or other processing of cash items when this includes; (1) direct handling of cash items, and (2) use of cash accountability control methods. Must have ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Skill in dealing with the public. Prior experience in basic supply techniques is desirable. PGA (Professional Golfer's Association of America) Affiliate or higher is highly desirable.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
