Import & Export Freight Forwarder - Requirements
- 5+ years' experience within freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, or supply chain
- Strong import and export experience, ideally with sea freight
- Good knowledge of UK and international customs procedures
- Experience with export declarations, CDS entries, Carnets, and customs documentation
- Good understanding of Incoterms and international shipping regulations
- Dangerous Goods awareness
- Experience using freight management systems; Multi Freight experience would be advantageous
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships with customers, carriers, agents, and suppliers
- Commercially aware with experience handling quotations, rates, and margins
Import & Export Freight Forwarder - Responsibilities
- Manage import and export shipments from start to finish across sea, road, air, and multimodal transport
- Manage key customer accounts and build strong, long-term relationships
- Coordinate customs documentation, declarations, tariff classifications, and duty requirements
- Liaise with shipping lines, carriers, overseas agents, and customers to ensure smooth shipment movements
- Provide guidance on Incoterms, customs requirements, and international shipping regulations
- Prepare quotations, negotiate rates, and support commercial pricing decisions
- Resolve shipment delays, exceptions, disputes, and operational issues
- Maintain accurate shipment and financial records within the freight management system
- Ensure all shipments are handled efficiently, compliantly, and within agreed service levels
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, customer service, and operational performance
