About the Position: This position is located within Health Care Operation's (HCO) Health Informatics (HI), at the Defense Health Agency West, in San Antonio, Texas. The mission of Healthcare Operations is to inspire hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, and education.

Major duties

  • Serve as a subject matter expert within the Defense Health Network on the Issue resolution for Clinical, Revenue Cycle and Administrative facets of the electronic health record and associated interfaces.
  • Advise on strategic integration of all Electronic Health Record (EHR) workflows, encounter creation and management, and technology solutions to support Electronic Health Record modernization.
  • Lead in solution development with expertise by collaborating with enterprise partners in the development of Health Information Technology Content and Configuration Change Management Issue Resolution Management policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Support network leaders, and MTF Commanders by defining, analyzing and resolution of issues related to MHS-G, and associated interfaces.
  • Plan and direct health informatics support operations and their effect on the ability to meet mission objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent the organization at DoD, DHA, command and installation meetings and conferences.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing an enterprise electronic health record (EHR) or health informatics system, such as MHS GENESIS/Cerner Millennium, to recommend or implement workflow or system-functionality improvements; collecting, analyzing, and/or interpreting clinical data to identify trends, assess compliance, or develop recommendations for leadership; advising senior leaders regarding health informatics operations and/or optimization, such as issues, risks, corrective actions, and new system capabilities; developing, implementing, or applying policies and procedures that support regulatory compliance, system reliability, and/or patient-care operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
