  • Proven experience in non scalpel technique and hyfrecator usage

Non-Scalpel Vasectomy Procedure and Procedural Verification BPAS utilises a standardised non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) technique to ensure consistency of practice, patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes. During the procedure, the vas deferens is identified and isolated through a small puncture opening in the scrotal skin, avoiding the need for a surgical incision. This minimally invasive approach is associated with reduced tissue trauma, lower infection risk, minimal scarring and quicker post-procedure recovery. Once the vas deferens has been isolated, the Consultant Urologist uses a Hyfrecator to perform thermal cauterisation. The procedure involves division of the vas deferens by cauterising across the lumen, followed by cauterisation of both cut ends. This approach creates effective occlusion of the vas deferens and is intended to minimise the risk of recanalisation and subsequent vasectomy failure. As part of the procedural safety process and local BPAS requirements, a two-person verification check is undertaken. The Consultant Urologist will request a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) to perform a visual confirmation that: Both vas deferens have been correctly identified and treated. The Hyfrecator has successfully divided the vas deferens. Both proximal and distal ends have been adequately cauterised. This verification process forms an additional patient safety measure and supports procedural assurance. Following completion of the check, both the Consultant Urologist and the HCSW will document and sign the relevant section of the patient pathway record to confirm that the procedure has been completed in accordance with the agreed BPAS clinical methodology and safety requirements. All clinicians delivering the service must follow the approved BPAS vasectomy technique to ensure a consistent, standardised approach to care and to support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient outcomes. I will need their scope of practice or logbooks as well please so that I can share with the clinical leads.
