About the company

Join the TCG Machines Team! TCG Machines designs and builds the PhyzBatch-9000, the automated trading-card sorting and identification system that game stores and card businesses use to process their inventory. The PhyzBatch runs in hundreds of stores across the world and has processed over a billion cards. It works with the marketplaces and point-of-sale systems our customers already use. We design and build it all in our Calgary facility: mechanical, electronics, firmware, machine vision and software, then assembly, test and delivery.

Your tasks

The role You'll own major mechanical subsystems of our product [card feed, transport, imaging enclosure, sorting mechanism] from first sketch in SolidWorks through prototype, testing and production. You'll work closely with our software and electronics people, so you need to be comfortable with how motors, sensors and boards fit into a mechanical design, even if you're not writing the firmware yourself.

What you'll do

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies in SolidWorks for our next-generation machine, from concept to production release.
  • Build, test and iterate prototypes, 3D-printed, machined and sheet metal and run the tests that prove them out.
  • Integrate motors, sensors, cameras, PCBs and wiring into the mechanical design with our electronics and software team.
  • Design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) so builds are repeatable, serviceable and cost-effective.
  • Create and maintain drawings (with GD&T), BOMs and assembly instructions for the build floor.
  • Work with suppliers on quotes, quality and lead times for custom parts.
  • Support pilot builds and early production: troubleshoot issues and roll fixes back into the design.
  • Help estimate effort and keep the program schedule realistic.

Requirements

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar (APEGA registration or eligibility is an asset).
  • 3?7 years designing electromechanical products, ideally taking at least one from concept to production.
  • Strong SolidWorks skills: parts, assemblies, drawings, configurations and BOMs.
  • Working knowledge of DFM/DFA and common processes: sheet metal, machining, injection molding, 3D printing.
  • Comfortable reading and applying GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Basic embedded systems knowledge: how microcontrollers, motor drivers and sensors talk to each other, and enough to debug a setup on the bench.
  • Hands-on with prototypes: shop tools and soldering.
  • Clear communicator who's happy working across mechanical, electrical, software and production in a fast, iterative team.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating PCBs, cable harnesses and connectors into enclosures (ECAD/MCAD collaboration).
  • Motion and mechanism design: stepper/servo motors, belts, rollers, linear motion, paper or card handling.
  • Experience with cameras, optics or lighting in machine-vision products.
  • Familiarity with a PLM/PDM system and design reviews.
  • Startup or small-team hardware experience; low-volume manufacturing.
