South Holland District Council is looking for a passionate and proactive Housing Standards Officer to help shape the quality of housing across the District.

As a Housing Standards Officer , you'll play a vital role in protecting residents, improving housing conditions, and ensuring landlords meet their responsibilities within the private rented sector. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career within a dynamic and supportive team while making a tangible difference in local communities.

A Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS check) in addition to a Basic Disclosure (DBS check) is a likely requirement of this role.

No two days are the same in this rewarding role. Your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting risk-based property inspections and identifying housing hazards in accordance with the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Investigating and regulating Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), working closely with landlords and managing agents to achieve compliance.
  • Processing HMO licence applications.
  • Undertaking Immigration and Homes for Ukraine accommodation inspections.
  • Bringing empty properties back into use across the District.
  • Gathering evidence and preparing documentation to support enforcement action where necessary.
  • Preparing professional evidence bundles for court proceedings and legal action.

We're seeking someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable and committed to delivering excellent outcomes.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience working within housing or a related field.
  • A professional, calm and positive approach.
  • The ability to balance empathy with objectivity.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Strong organisational, written and IT skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • The confidence to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • A genuine desire to learn, develop and build your expertise.
