Research and Development Director

Microhaem — the first 4th-generation IVD manufacturing plant in Africa — is looking for an experienced Research and Development Director to lead the development and lifecycle management of our medical devices. This is a leadership role for a strong systems thinker who combines deep technical expertise across software and hardware boundaries with proven experience driving product development in a fast-moving, stringently regulated startup environment, serving as our device subject matter expert across new product development, systems integration, design controls, risk management, and verification & validation.

Tasks

Lead and oversee research and development projects to ensure alignment with the company's mission of enhancing patient lives through innovative technology.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify critical needs in medical diagnostics and develop strategies for addressing these gaps.

Ensure all R&D activities comply with industry standards and regulations while maintaining a focus on quality and accountability.

Foster a culture of boldness and challenge within the team, encouraging creative solutions and continuous improvement.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders to report on progress, challenges, and future opportunities in line with the company's values and objectives.

Requirements

A Ph.D. or Master's degree in Medical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.

At least 10 years of experience in research and development within the medical or diagnostic laboratory industry.

Proven track record of successfully leading and managing R&D teams, with strong project management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
