Scientist / Senior Scientist Antibody Production
Your new company
You'll be joining a global biopharmaceutical organisation at the forefront of antibody discovery and development. You'll work within a highly collaborative antibody production group supporting the generation of therapeutic and tool antibodies from early discovery through to late-stage preclinical programmes.
Your new role
This is initially a 12-month contract that is likely to extend and will involve working with a wide range of other teams and departments on project delivery as you combine hands-on antibody production with laboratory automation and process improvement, including assessing and implementing new technology and tools, helping to deliver high-quality reagents at scale. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, optimising, and operating automated workflows for antibody expression, purification, plasmid DNA (pDNA) production, and sample processing
- Performing transient mammalian transfections and small-scale antibody production using high-throughput platforms
- Troubleshooting expression, purification, automation, and quality-related issues to support project delivery
- Supporting antibody quality assessment and communicating results to internal stakeholders
- Using data analysis and visualisation tools to identify performance trends and process improvement opportunities
- Managing sample registration, inventory, normalisation, aliquoting, labelling, and traceability activities
- Evaluating and implementing new automation technologies and digital tools to improve efficiency and throughput
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver project milestones
- Maintaining laboratory equipment, automation platforms, electronic records, and data integrity standards
What you'll need to succeed
- A BSc or MSc (or equivalent experience) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline (PhD also considered)
- Hands-on experience in antibody expression / production, protein purification, cell culture, or protein characterisation, preferably in industry, eg biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO
- Strong understanding of protein biochemistry and purification methods, ideally with AKTA
- Experience working with mammalian expression systems and transient transfection workflows - plasmid / pDNA strongly preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot technical challenges and interpret experimental data
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive mindset, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently
The following would be an advantage:
- Experience with antibody production, pDNA production, or protein purification in an industrial setting
- Experience with automated workflows or high-throughput laboratory platforms
- Experience with SEC-UPLC/HPLC, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGE, UV-Vis, or endotoxin testing
- Exposure to LIMS, ELNs, inventory systems, or sample management databases
- Experience handling large sample volumes and complex sample tracking workflows
- Interest in automation, process improvement, data analytics, or machine learning applications within laboratory environments
What you'll get in return
You'll be working with a friendly, experienced team, with opportunities to develop your skills and experience in a highly innovative company.
