World Class Defence Organisation is currently looking to recruit a Network Engineer subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract.

please note: Current DV Security Clearance is required.

Rate: £68.75 per hour Location: Stevenage Hybrid / Remote working: Onsite 4 days per week, 1 day remote from home. 8 hours a day between 07:00-19:00 Contract: 37 Hours per week Overtime: Hours worked over 37 hours per week will be calculated at ‘time and a quarter’ Duration: 12 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter) IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Network Engineer

Job Description: DEx Networks are responsible for the management and support of networks across the UK estate, and some International locations (MCN). DEx Networks has two departments: Network Solutions (Projects) and Operations (BAU/ Support/ Maintenance); DEx Network Operations is split into five domains, as follows:

  • Network Collaboration (Unified Comms)
  • Network DevOps
  • Network Infrastructure (LAN)
  • Network Security
  • Network Services
  • Network Collaboration services : Collaboration tools, IP telephony and Video Conference.
  • Network DevOps : Automation and the development of processes/solutions to deliver services and improvements, as a team.
  • Network Infrastructure (LAN & WLAN) : network infrastructure (i.e. switches/routers etc.) on various networks of differing classifications.
  • Network Security : firewalls, load balancing, proxies, RAS, encryption – the security technologies to maintain a secure network. This is separate from our SOC team that analyses network threats and vulnerabilities, amongst other things.
  • Network Services : Manages service outcomes, monitoring output and incident process, supporting the other departments with communication to end users, process documentation etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated support at, but not limited to, the Stevenage site (Bolton and Bristol sites are also in scope), ensuring the effective delivery of DEx Network service in this high-profile environment.
  • Own the remediation of any identified issues and risks, based on submitted reports and any other intelligence.
  • Assist with the support of initiatives as part of the DEx Networks team.
  • Build relationships with partners and external suppliers to optimise the service provided and play a substantial role in agreeing service levels to meet business need.
  • Engage with the Security team to develop Security Reporting, risk analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Service Manager, and DEx Network Service team, to ensure Network service requirements meet the agreed criteria.
  • Collaborate with the DEx Networks Crypto Network Specialist regarding crypto management and support.

Skillset/experience required:

  • A career background in information technology.
  • Demonstrable crypto experience, and strong knowledge of crypto best practice.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Catalyst Center, ISE; Cisco best practice and CVDs
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the OSI model.
  • Strong understanding of network communication protocols including, but not limited to HSRP/ VRRP, HTTP/S, OSPF/BGP, SSL, TCP/IP.
  • Experience with Windows Server/AD, Linux, RHEL and VMWare/vSphere.
  • Self-motivated, ambitious and tenacious, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • A structured approach to document management.
  • Exposure to SDA principles and deployments.
  • Authentication services.
  • Network cabling fundamentals.
  • Proficient in monitoring technologies such as Nagios, PRTG, Solarwinds.
  • CCNA / CCNP would be great.
