Supervisory Firefighter

About the Position: Serves as the Deputy Fire Chief. Works under the direct supervisor of the fire chief, who outlines policy, procedures, and objectives for the overall department. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. SRC for Firefighters (Secondary)

Major duties

• Share in the overall technical and administrative management of the fire department in conjunction with the Fire Chief.
• Review and approve contingency plans and training programs.
• Assist in analyzing overall fire protection activities.
• Supervise technical and support employees through subordinate supervisors.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Managing a fire protection and prevention program, 2) directing and controlling emergency response operations for structural fires, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials incidents, 3) developing and implementing fire department operating procedures and training programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Additional Qualifications: In order to receive consideration for this position, you must submit a copy of your Fire Officer IV Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Material Incident Command and Airport Firefighter Certifications. With the exception of the Hazardous Material Incident Command Certification, the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program shall recognize and accept certification certificates from any entity accredited by the IFSAC or the Pro-Board only when the DoD employee has satisfied the required prerequisite certification level(s). Employees who have completed IFSAC or Pro-Board accredited training programs may require DoD equivalent certifications under the reciprocity provision of the certification program. The certificates being submitted for Change 1, 09/16/2010 25 Chapter 4 DoD 6055-06-M, February 23, 2006 reciprocity must have the appropriate IFSAC or Pro-Board seal on them. The DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program shall not issue certification certificates for completing non-accredited training.
