Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced PMC Engineer (Commissioning Mechanical) with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry for ADNOC Onshore client to be based in Abu Dhabi within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business.
Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based at onshore site in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The role
Responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising and executing mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and performance testing activities for onshore oil and gas facilities. The engineer ensures that mechanical systems and equipment are safely and successfully transferred from construction to operations in accordance with client requirements, approved procedures, project specifications, HSE standards and applicable international codes.

Key responsibilities
Review approved commissioning procedures, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, vendor manuals, commissioning philosophies and project specifications
Develop and execute mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures, checklists and test packs
Verify mechanical completion and ready for commissioning (RFC) status before starting commissioning activities
Review and clear mechanical punch-list items in coordination with construction, QA/QC and operations
Supervise pre-commissioning activities including:
Equipment inspection and cleaning
Flushing and chemical cleaning
Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing
Air blowing and nitrogen purging
Equipment lubrication
Lube-oil flushing
Leak testing
Alignment verification
Rotating equipment checks
Valve and piping system testing
Commission and test mechanical equipment including:
Centrifugal and positive-displacement pumps
Compressors
Air coolers
Heat exchangers
Pressure vessels
Tanks
Filters and strainers
Valves
Piping systems
Utility systems
Package equipment
Verify equipment installation, alignment, lubrication, preservation and mechanical integrity before start-up
Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, process, operations, HSE and construction teams to ensure system readiness
Coordinate with vendors/OEM representatives during equipment commissioning and troubleshooting
Participate in FAT, SAT, equipment inspections and functional testing where applicable. Recent ADNOC commissioning roles specifically identify coordination with project, inspection and operations teams for FAT/SAT completion
Ensure work permits, isolations, blinds, depressurization, draining, purging and other commissioning prerequisites are properly implemented
Participate in system walkdowns and prepare/close commissioning punch lists
Troubleshoot mechanical problems encountered during pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up
Monitor equipment operating parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow, vibration, speed and lubrication conditions
Support initial equipment run-in, operational testing and performance testing
Coordinate commissioning activities with ADNOC operations to achieve safe and efficient start-up
Prepare commissioning schedules, daily progress reports, test records and system handover dossiers
Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, including check sheets, test reports, punch lists and acceptance certificates
Ensure as-built documentation and turnover packages are complete
Support final system handover from project/contractor to ADNOC operations

Expected qualifications and experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical commissioning within oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery or EPC projects
Experience with onshore oil and gas facilities is highly preferred
ADNOC/ADNOC Onshore project experience is an advantage
Strong knowledge of mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities
Experience working with EPC contractors, vendors and client/operations teams
