Assistant United States Attorney
s prosecute all criminal and civil cases brought by the federal government and defend the United States in civil cases. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement for other units in the Criminal or Civil Division. This position is located in Boston, MA
Major duties
The attorney hired for the Asset Recovery Unit (ARU) position will focus on recovering assets to pay restitution to victims and fines in criminal cases, identifying and freezing proceeds of crimes and other criminal assets both domestically and internationally, and handling all aspects of civil and criminal forfeiture matters. This attorney's practice will also include managing civil bankruptcy matters and may include commencing civil actions to recover debt owed to federal agencies. The ARU AUSA will be responsible for handling a large and active caseload, working in close cooperation with AUSAs in the Office's Criminal Division, filing pleadings, appearing in both U.S. District Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court, providing prompt legal advice to agencies, and representing the United States in other legal matters as assigned. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing (in any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Significant experience as an attorney practicing debt collection or bankruptcy law, superior academic credentials, and excellent writing and oral advocacy skills. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
