We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Logistics Manager to lead our UK logistics operation on a fixed-term basis until March 2027. This is a high-profile leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and cost-effective movement of inbound and outbound materials across domestic and international supply chains. As a key member of the SSC Leadership Team, you will play a vital role in driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction and sustainable business growth within a fast-paced and innovative manufacturing environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a proven logistics leader with significant expertise in transport, customs, international trade compliance and continuous improvement.

Your new role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will be accountable for the overall performance of the UK logistics function, ensuring the effective management of transport operations, customs compliance, import and export activities, logistics providers and strategic improvement initiatives.You will provide leadership to the logistics team while driving transformation projects, enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Develop and deliver the logistics strategy aligned to wider business objectives.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Logistics team, driving engagement and performance.
  • Manage performance, absence management and employee development plans.
  • Build capability through succession planning, skills development and talent management.
  • Contribute as a key member of the SSC Leadership Team.

Transport & Logistics Management

  • Lead inbound and outbound logistics operations across road, air and sea freight.
  • Manage relationships with transport providers, freight forwarders and courier partners.
  • Optimise transportation costs, service levels and operational capacity.
  • Ensure efficient and reliable supply chain performance across domestic and international markets.

Customs & Trade Compliance

  • Own UK customs compliance and import/export operations.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, customs legislation, VAT requirements and Incoterms.
  • Manage customs brokers and oversee tariff classifications, customs valuations and country of origin processes.
  • Lead all aspects of Inward Processing Relief (IPR), Bills of Discharge and customs audits.
  • Ensure robust governance and compliance regarding customs duties and VAT obligations.

Dangerous Goods Management

  • Ensure compliance with ADR, IATA and IMDG regulations.
  • Oversee dangerous goods packaging, labelling, documentation and training requirements.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance across logistics operations.

Continuous Improvement & Transformation

  • Lead logistics transformation, automation and systems projects, including SAP and related logistics platforms.
  • Drive Lean, Kaizen, A3PS and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs to improve service, efficiency and cost performance.
  • Manage budgets, supplier performance and contractual agreements.
  • Lead logistics risk management, audit actions and business continuity planning.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive senior logistics leadership experience within manufacturing, engineering or another highly regulated environment.
  • Strong expertise in transport management, freight operations and international logistics.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs legislation, HMRC compliance, VAT, IPR and Bills of Discharge.
  • Experience managing Dangerous Goods operations, with DGSA qualification advantageous.
  • Strong SAP or equivalent ERP systems experience.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects, business transformation and change initiatives.
  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, analytical skills and stakeholder management capability.
  • Outstanding leadership, coaching and communication skills.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach with a passion for driving performance and continuous improvement.
