Overview

If you are an experienced commercial driver looking to transition away from long-haul routes and spend your evenings at home, becoming a CDL Instructor offers a rewarding path forward. In this role, you will work directly with students at our training yard and on local roads, teaching them the exact skills needed to pass their CDL road test and operate commercial vehicles safely.

Your work directly supports individuals working toward life-changing career opportunities. By sharing your industry knowledge, patience, and commitment to safety, you will help shape the next generation of professional drivers.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means creating a safe, encouraging learning environment where students build real-world confidence behind the wheel. You will guide students through every step of the learning process, from basic vehicle controls to advanced road maneuvers.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Yard & Inspection Instruction: Demonstrate and teach pre-trip and in-cab inspection procedures, air brake checks, and essential parking maneuvers (straight back, offset, and parallel parking with or without trailers).

Behind-the-Wheel Training: Guide students through real-world driving scenarios, including city traffic, highway driving, rural roads, defensive driving techniques, and handling emergency situations.

Classroom & Simulator Support: Administer coursework, simulator lessons, and practice tests covering traffic laws, weight limits, road signs, and basic vehicle maintenance.

Progress Tracking: Track student training hours, grade practical performances, and maintain accurate records in student files.

Vehicle Care: Perform daily walk-around checks, move equipment around the yard as needed, handle basic refueling, and report any specialized maintenance needs.
