About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain half way between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 5000 employees.

Major duties

  • Performs installation, assembly and operation of electronic controlled industrial production machinery.
  • Uses various hand, power and shop tools common to the trade of an electronic industrial controls mechanic
  • Works as lead assisting lower grade employees, communicate with manufacturer's representatives and apply modification/upgrades to obsolete machinery/parts.
  • Determines appropriate test equipment to troubleshoot complex electronic controlled production machinery such as multimeter, laptop, oscilloscope, ammeter, megger, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electronic subassemblies and components.
  • Analyzes or interprets data in order to repair or modify complex electronic production machinery utilizing blueprints/diagrams, schematics and perform final testing for proper operation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an EIC Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform some tasks including install, place in operation, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, replace, and/or modifies complex electronic control and indicating systems, Numerically Controlled (NC) equipment, Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment, electronic components/parts, and a variety of electronic test equipment associated with the depot maintenance functions. Utilizes a fundamental knowledge of computer concepts and numerical control, interprets and uses blueprints, schematics, manufacturers manuals, etc., when available, to analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair systems malfunctions, faulty components, assemblies, circuitry, transmission lines, central processing units, memory storage, microprocessors, and circuit cards containing integrated circuits, diodes, transistors, relays, etc. Make replacements or associated system repairs and adjustments, accomplishes modifications and conducts system functional tests. Provides technical assistance to engineering, contractor, modification/changes to the equipment, and lower-grads ASRS personnel regarding modification/changes to the equipment. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey level - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - Electronics Ingenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Theory of Electronics Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Physical Effort: Incumbent must work in standing, stooping, bending, and reaching positions. Frequently handles items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 60 pounds; however, hoist, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in buildings that are moderate heated and occasionally outside where there is exposure to weather elements. Buildings have concrete floors and there is noise from running machinery. There is possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and electrical shock. Incumbent must wear protective equipment such as safety glasses, shoes and gloves.Ensures that hazardous material/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating procedures and guidelines. Guidance for proper handling of hazardous material/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Ensures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous material/waste, are properly palletized and secured for movement. Checks to ensure that containers are sealed and reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at the work site. Immediately notifies supervisor on any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous material/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber gloves, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
