This position serves in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facility Operations Division, Mechanical Systems Branch, Mechanical Systems Day, Evening or Night Section.

Major duties

Tour of Duty: for this position is Monday - Friday from 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Note: Hours may be flexible within core business hours or may change due to operational needs. This position is emergency essential. Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Worker performs progressively more difficult tasks involving installing, repairing and modifying air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems that regulate climatic conditions. Duties include, but are not limited to: Connect and perform routine maintenance or repair work on power sources of various cooling units. Tighten connections, make splices and insulate exposed wires. Examine system for proper operation. Replace belts, fans and fuses. Clean and lubricate moving parts of equipment. Replace compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, coils and drive assemblies. Test units upon completion of repairs to ensure performance according to requirements. Replace compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, coils and drive assemblies on major cooling units. Check for the proper temperature of conditioned spaces; proper operation of the components of the refrigeration cycle; proper lubricant levels; unusual noises; overheated bearings; loose physical or electrical connections; faulty insulation; frayed or loose belts, gaskets and pulleys; and any other defects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
