Transport Manager

Brief Description

The Transport Manager oversees transportation operations, own fleet, and subcontracted carriers to ensure safe, reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality services. The role also manages carrier development, transport costing, pricing, transport solutions, and commercial support for RFQ/RFP, tenders, and new business.

Key Responsibilities

1. Transport Operations & Fleet

• Manage daily transport operations, fleet utilization, routing, scheduling, capacity, and delivery performance.
• Ensure sufficient capacity and monitor KPIs including On-Time Delivery, utilization, cost, productivity, claims, damages, and complaints.
• Coordinate with internal teams and customers to resolve operational issues.

1. Carrier / Supplier Management

• Source, evaluate, negotiate, and manage transport suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop carrier networks, manage rates, capacity, service, safety, quality, and compliance.
• Maintain backup carriers and contingency plans.

1. Cost, Pricing & Commercial Support

• Develop transport cost models covering vehicle, driver, fuel, toll, maintenance, insurance, overhead, and subcontractor costs.
• Set selling rates based on cost, market conditions, operational requirements, and target profitability.
• Analyze RFQ/RFP requirements and prepare transport solutions, capacity plans, quotations, and proposals.
• Support tenders, negotiations, customer meetings, and business development.

1. Safety & Quality

• Ensure vehicles, drivers, and suppliers meet legal, safety, quality, insurance, ISO/QMS, OSHE, and company requirements.
• Control licenses, inspections, maintenance, qualifications, and required documents.
• Investigate accidents, damages, service failures, and complaints and implement corrective actions.

1. Performance & Improvement

• Monitor transport KPI/SLA and supplier performance.
• Drive improvements in route optimization, vehicle utilization, backhaul, fuel efficiency, empty mileage, and transport costs.
• Evaluate TMS, GPS, tracking, and other transport technologies.
• Support sustainability initiatives including fuel/CO₂ reduction and EV transportation.

1. Team & Stakeholder Management

• Lead and develop the Transport team and establish SOPs and performance standards.
• Work closely with Commercial, Operations, Finance, Procurement, Safety, Quality, and customers.
• Provide management with transport cost, capacity, performance, and risk analysis.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, Engineering, Business Administration, or related fields. Minimum 7–10 years of experience in transportation, logistics, 3PL, fleet, or carrier management, with supervisory/management experience. Strong experience in transport operations, carrier sourcing, supplier negotiation, and subcontractor management. Experience in transport costing, pricing, RFQ/RFP, tender, and commercial support. Good knowledge of truck types, transportation costs, routing, fleet utilization, maintenance, and applicable transport regulations. Knowledge of Safety, QMS/ISO, supplier audit, RCA, and CAPA. Strong Excel and analytical skills for transport costing and performance analysis. Knowledge of TMS, GPS, route optimization, or Power BI is an advantage. Strong negotiation, commercial, problem-solving, presentation, and leadership skills. Good command of written and spoken English. Result-oriented with strong ownership and ability to work across multiple functions.
