About the Position: Serve as a Supervisory Public Safety Dispatcher for the Directorate of Emergency Services Police/Provost Marshall Communications Branch at JBLM, WA.

Major duties

  • Assign work and special duties through shift for Lead Dispatchers.
  • Plan work schedules, revise schedule to meet peak workload periods and manpower shortages.
  • Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls.
  • Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority's emergency medical dispatch system.
  • Monitor status and availability of police, fire and medical field units to assure an appropriate response is made.

Current or Prior Permanent Federal Service Employees: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Maintaining an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response; 2) Responsible for assuring personnel assigned to the shift carry out work assignments in accordance with instructions; and 3) Provide emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls ensuring emergency service personnel respond with appropriate personnel and equipment and give pre-arrival instructions to callers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Or Specialized Experience for External Applicants: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Overseeing and maximizing the utility of complex dispatch, telecommunications, and advanced public safety automation systems; 2) Independently manage high-consequence incoming emergency and non-emergency requests while coordinating tactical incident coordination across multiple jurisdictional public safety agencies; and 3) Interpreting, enforcing, and formulating strategies to implement regulatory guidance on emergency service dispatching policies, protocols, and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). NOTE: This Installation does not have the intervening grade at the GS-09 level. Time in Grade will be considered at the GS-08 and GS-09 levels of experience.
