Technical Product & Innovation Project Manager – Forestry & AI
🌱 Symbiose is a deeptech company combining Earth observation, LiDAR, AI and forest science to help people understand, manage and protect forests.
Our platform turns complex environmental data into useful information for forest owners and managers, investors, insurers and certification stakeholders. We work on forest inventory, growth, carbon, biodiversity and climate risks, with a focus on making scientific results understandable and usable in real decisions.
Based at Station F in Paris, we bring together software engineers, machine learning specialists, remote sensing experts and forest scientists. You will help decide what we build and turn the strongest opportunities into products and funded R&D projects.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Technical Product & Innovation Project Manager who is equally interested in users, technology and ambitious projects.
You will meet customers, understand their needs, present our platform and turn what you learn into product priorities. You will work with our web and R&D teams to bring forestry models into features that customers can understand, trust and use.
You will also take hands-on responsibility for funding applications and innovation projects. When a relevant call appears, you should be able to assess the opportunity, propose an angle, write a strong first draft, develop a budget and business plan, and drive the submission forward. You will seek targeted input from specialists to validate assumptions, while owning the dossier and its deadline.
The role involves periods when several applications, deliverables and reporting deadlines overlap. We are looking for someone who can stay organised, make thoughtful choices about where to invest our time and keep projects moving.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Customer Discovery
Speak directly with forest managers, asset managers, insurers and technical partners to understand their workflows and decisions. Present and demonstrate the platform, including its methods, results and limitations, to both business and technical audiences. Turn customer feedback and market signals into proposals for the product roadmap; explain which problems are worth solving and why. Write clear requirements and acceptance criteria, prioritise work with the team, and follow features from concept through delivery and customer feedback. Help distinguish reusable product capabilities from one-off requests.
Technical & Scientific Translation
Work with developers on web application flows, APIs, geospatial data and the integration of model outputs into the platform. Discuss machine learning and LLM features with researchers and engineers: input data, validation, performance, uncertainty, traceability and what can responsibly be shown to users. Use your knowledge of forests to ask informed questions about inventory, biomass, forest health, growth and climate risks, and challenge how scientific results translate into customer value. Bring clear customer questions and product priorities to the team, and communicate technical constraints back to customers.
R&D Funding, Business Plans & Reporting
Monitor relevant calls for proposals, funding, including opportunities from ESA, Horizon Europe and national innovation programs. Make reasoned go/no-go recommendations based on customer demand, product strategy, technical feasibility, funding terms and the team's capacity. Take ownership of applications: project concept, technical narrative, work packages, milestones, deliverables, partner roles, budgets, business plan, market potential, impact and exploitation. Draft the dossier independently using existing product and scientific material; obtain focused reviews from technical, forestry and finance colleagues where needed. Coordinate submission timelines and partner contributions, and manage progress reporting and deliverables for awarded projects. Identify promising intellectual property arising from projects and help prepare the information needed for assessment with IP specialists.
What you could achieve in your first six months
Build a working understanding of our platform and be able to lead a product demonstration and technical customer conversation. Turn customer conversations into a focused, argued set of product priorities. Take the lead on at least one substantial funding application, from opportunity assessment to submission, with targeted internal reviews. Put in place a clear view of upcoming calls, project commitments and reporting deadlines.
