If you are an experienced senior claims leader who wants the opportunity to build a function rather than inherit one, this is a rare chance to create a claims operation from the ground up within a highly successful and long-established MGA. You will have the freedom to shape the strategy, structure, systems and processes around what a modern commercial claims function should look like, while working within an entrepreneurial business that has a strong track record of growth and delivery.

The opportunity This is a senior leadership role with a genuine build mandate. You will take responsibility for designing and establishing the claims function, creating the operating model, setting service standards and ensuring the business has the right infrastructure in place to support future growth. The role will also give you the opportunity to bring in new ideas around technology, automation and process improvement, including the use of AI where it can improve efficiency, consistency and client outcomes.

What the role looks like Your responsibilities will include: Designing and implementing the overall claims strategy. Building the claims function, operating model and governance framework from the ground up. Establishing systems, processes and service standards across the claims lifecycle. Working closely with underwriting, operations and senior leadership to ensure claims supports the wider commercial strategy. Developing strong relationships with capacity providers, brokers, TPAs and other external partners. Overseeing complex or high-value claims where senior input is required. Creating MI, reporting and controls to support performance management and regulatory oversight. Identifying opportunities to streamline processes through technology and automation. Supporting the wider transition and development of the business as its operating model evolves. Building and developing a team as the function grows.

Who this could suit You will already have significant experience operating within claims at a senior level and should understand the UK commercial insurance market in depth. You could come from an MGA, MGU, insurer or similarly entrepreneurial environment, but you will need the credibility and practical experience to build a claims function that works commercially as well as technically. Experience of setting up or transforming claims operations would be particularly valuable, as would exposure to a business moving from an MGA to an MGU model. Knowledge of claims systems, process design and automation will also be important. Experience using AI or other technology to improve efficiency and decision-making would be a strong advantage.

The business You will be joining a highly successful and long-standing MGA with an entrepreneurial culture and a strong record of growth. The attraction is the level of influence attached to the role. You will have the opportunity to define how claims operates, how it supports brokers and customers, and how the function can become a genuine point of differentiation in the market. For someone who enjoys building, improving and taking ownership at senior level, there is significant scope to make a lasting impact.

Package and location The salary is circa £125,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider senior-level benefits package. The role has a UK-wide remit, with flexibility around location for the right person.

The next step If you are an experienced claims leader who wants the opportunity to build a function from scratch and shape how it supports the wider business, it would be worth a confidential conversation. I can talk you through the scope of the role, the current operating model and the level of autonomy available before you decide whether you want to explore it further.
