Nautisch Schade Expert
Role purpose: Assess, investigate, and manage marine (nautical) damage claims to determine cause, scope, liability, and settlement recommendations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with policy and regulations.
- Conduct on-site and remote inspections of vessels, cargo, and maritime equipment after incidents.
- Analyze damage causes (e.g., collision, grounding, weather, mechanical failure) and document findings.
- Estimate repair costs, validate invoices/quotes, and recommend reserves and settlement amounts.
- Collect evidence (photos, statements, logs, maintenance records) and prepare clear expert reports.
- Coordinate with insurers, brokers, shipyards, surveyors, legal parties, and authorities.
- Support claim negotiations and provide technical input on coverage, liability, and recovery options.
- Monitor timelines, ensure accurate case administration, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Required skills and qualifications
- Marine technical expertise in vessel construction, navigation, and maritime operations.
- Claims investigation skills: fact-finding, root-cause analysis, and structured reporting.
- Cost assessment capability for repairs, salvage, and related services.
- Communication skills for stakeholder management and clear written documentation.
- Regulatory awareness of maritime safety standards and insurance policy principles.
- Ability to travel for inspections; strong planning and case prioritization.
