BUILDING PAINTER

Job Summary

Perform surface preparation and painting tasks using appropriate materials and tools, ensuring quality finishes and adherence to safety standards. Manage cost calculations and price negotiations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare walls and surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to ensure proper adhesion
• Fill cracks and holes with suitable materials such as plaster to create smooth surfaces
• Mix paint and materials accurately to achieve the correct color and texture for each project
• Apply paint to surfaces using various tools according to instructions to deliver consistent finishes
• Apply varnish and other protective finishes to enhance surface durability and appearance
• Calculate project costs and negotiate prices with clients to meet budget and scope requirements
• Follow all health and safety precautions to maintain a safe working environment
• Work flexible hours including after regular schedules, weekends, public holidays, and night/day shifts as required
• Use painting tools such as brushes and caulking guns skillfully to complete tasks efficiently
• Maintain manual dexterity and balance to work safely on scaffolding and ladders
• Pay close attention to detail to ensure high-quality workmanship

Required competencies and certifications

• Proven experience as a painter
• Knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Excellent knowledge of painting materials and their selection, mixing, and application
