Sabika is an Egyptian fintech platform that enables users to save, buy, and sell gold and silver through a fully digital mobile experience. Correctness, traceability, and security are core to everything we build. We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to take full technical ownership of Sabika's backend platform. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role: you will be the primary owner of the services behind pricing, orders, wallets, and transactions, and you will be directly accountable for their correctness, security, and uptime. What you will do:

  • Own the Sabika Node.js backend end to end — architecture, development, code quality,

deployment, monitoring, and incident response.

  • Design and build secure, high-integrity APIs powering our mobile applications, with strong

guarantees around pricing accuracy and transaction consistency.

  • Set and maintain a high security baseline across the platform: authentication and

authorization, input validation, secure data handling, encryption, rate limiting, and audit logging of sensitive operations.

  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party providers and external APIs.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards: code review, automated testing, CI/CD,

environment management, and technical documentation.

  • Own observability — logging, alerting, and performance monitoring — and continuously improve

latency and reliability across critical flows.

  • Report directly to the CTO and translate product and technical requirements into reliable,

well-architected systems.

  • Set the technical direction as the platform scales, and mentor engineers as the team grows.

Why this role matters: You are not joining to work through a backlog. You are taking ownership of a production platform serving real customers, with a clear mandate to make it stronger, safer, and faster.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or Computer Engineering).
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on backend engineering experience, including clear ownership of

production systems.

  • Deep expertise in Node.js and its ecosystem: Express.js or NestJS, npm, and modern

JavaScript (ES2020+). Strong TypeScript experience is expected.

  • Solid understanding of Node.js internals and their practical implications: the event loop,

async patterns, memory management, worker threads, clustering, and how to avoid blocking operations in high-throughput flows.

  • Strong command of relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL): schema design, indexing,

transactions, isolation levels, and query optimization. Practical experience with an ORM or query builder (Prisma, TypeORM, Sequelize, Knex) plus the ability to write and tune raw SQL.

  • Proven experience designing and building secure REST APIs consumed by mobile clients,

including versioning, pagination, error contracts, and idempotency for financial operations.

  • Solid application security background: OWASP Top 10, secure authentication and session

management (JWT, refresh token rotation), authorization models, secrets management, encryption at rest and in transit, and dependency and supply-chain security (npm audit, lockfile discipline).

  • Experience with systems where data integrity is critical — financial, payments, ledger,

billing, or transactional platforms.

  • Automated testing discipline in the Node.js ecosystem (Jest, Vitest, Supertest) covering

unit, integration, and API-level tests.

  • Practical experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar).
  • Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills, including profiling Node.js

performance issues and memory leaks, and on-call ownership of live incidents.

  • Ability to work independently, make sound architectural decisions, and be fully accountable

for outcomes.

  • Good written and spoken English.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in fintech, banking, payments, trading, or commodities.
  • Experience integrating with ERP systems, identity verification providers, or payment

gateways.

  • Experience with real-time or near-real-time pricing and market data flows (WebSockets,

Socket.IO , or Server-Sent Events).

  • Experience with caching and job/queue processing in Node.js (Redis, BullMQ, RabbitMQ, or

Kafka) and event-driven design.

  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers, or being the senior-most backend engineer on a

product.

  • Familiarity with monorepo tooling and shared-package management for multi-service Node.js

codebases. What we are not looking for:

  • Someone who needs a fully defined ticket to start working.
  • Someone who has only worked as one contributor inside a large team without ever owning a

system end to end.
