As an Engineering Manager, Software Development in PitchBook’s engineering division, you will lead the Authentication & Identity Stream-Aligned Team (SAT), which owns end-user authentication and system-level authorization across PitchBook products, including the web platform, mobile applications, Excel and PowerPoint add-ins, and the Chrome extension. You will lead a distributed team of backend engineers and SDETs, supported by a technical lead, architect, and product manager. The Authentication domain is PitchBook’s primary interface to third-party identity providers and Morningstar identity systems. The team’s flagship, multi-year initiative is the migration from legacy credential and SSO infrastructure to Auth0-based Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM). Current work includes credential migration, silent authentication, SAML and Okta SSO connections, consolidation of microsite login flows, multi-factor authentication, session management, and just-in-time user provisioning. Because Authentication is a Tier-1, always-on service on the critical path for every customer and internal login, this role balances secure feature delivery with reliability, high availability, operational excellence, and scalable identity infrastructure.   Primary Job Responsibilities: Own engineering outcomes for the Authentication & Identity SAT, including capacity, delivery velocity, quality, reliability, scalability, and technical health Align engineering execution with the Authentication domain strategy and roadmap, including the Auth0 and SSO migration, and translate priorities into achievable delivery plans Lead, coach, and grow engineers and technical leads through regular feedback, career development, performance management, and compensation input Build and evolve the team through hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and thoughtful management of the team’s skill and seniority mix Own short- and long-term capacity and capability planning; identify constraints early and drive mitigation through hiring, reprioritization, internal movement, or support from enabling teams Ensure effective execution across the software development lifecycle, including refinement, design, estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement Partner with the SAT Architect, Product Manager, Platform, Architecture, and Security teams on solution design, technical standards, and secure handling of identity and authentication data Be accountable for the stability, performance, availability, and overall quality of the Authentication Service and related identity services, including observability, service-level objectives, incident reduction, and operational readiness Evolve engineering practices across code review, CI/CD, automated testing, incident response, documentation, and the responsible use of Generative AI tools Build a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing team culture grounded in psychological safety, accountability, collaboration, candor, and fun Partner closely with Product, the Core Admin Platform teams, and other domains to manage dependencies, contribute to domain-level planning, support company values, and participate in broader company initiatives Skills and Qualifications: Required skills: BS. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience 5+ years of professional software development experience, including delivery of secure, highly available backend services in a distributed architecture 2+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct people-management responsibilities, including performance reviews, coaching, and career development 3+ years of hands-on experience designing or coding Java services using Spring Framework or Spring Boot Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future, and able to work on site in Seattle 4 days per week Desired skills: Experience leading teams through complex, multi-phase technical initiatives from planning through production launch and operational ownership Ability to work effectively with Product, Architecture, Platform, Security, and other engineering teams across locations and time zones Strong understanding of software delivery, testing, observability, incident management, scalability, resiliency, and recoverability Experience with identity and access management, CIAM, authentication, authorization, or other security-sensitive systems Experience with Auth0, Okta, SAML SSO, Keycloak, multi-factor authentication, session management, or just-in-time user provisioning Experience with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Docker, GitOps, REST APIs, OpenAPI, and cloud-scale service delivery Experience managing Tier-1 or other business-critical services with demanding availability and reliability requirements Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical context to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders Experience working with distributed teams and managing dependencies across multiple product and platform groups Experience using Generative AI tools responsibly to improve engineering productivity, documentation, quality, and delivery efficiency Currently residing in the Greater Seattle area Benefits + Compensation at PitchBook: Physical Health Comprehensive health benefits Additional medical wellness incentives STD, LTD, AD&D, and life insurance Emotional Health Paid sabbatical program after four years Paid family and paternity leave Annual educational stipend Ability to apply for tuition reimbursement CFA exam stipend Robust training programs on industry and soft skills Employee assistance program Generous allotment of vacation days, sick days, and volunteer days Social Health Matching gifts program Employee resource groups Subsidized emergency childcare Dependent Care FSA Company-wide events Employee referral bonus program Quarterly team building events Financial Health 401k match Shared ownership employee stock program Monthly transportation stipend *Please be aware the above PitchBook benefit and perk offerings are subject to corresponding plan and policy documents and may change during the course of your employment. Compensation Annual base salary: $240,000-$280,000 Target annual bonus percentage: 15% Working Conditions: At the heart of our company is a belief in the power of in-person collaboration.
