Safety Officer

Responsibilities:

Conduct daily and periodic safety inspections of vehicles, drivers and operational locations. Monitor drivers’ compliance with road safety rules and company safety policies. Identify hazards and carry out risk assessments across operational activities. Monitor driver behaviour, including speeding, reckless driving, fatigue and unsafe practices. Ensure vehicles are operated safely and that identified safety defects are reported and addressed promptly. Investigate accidents, near misses, injuries and other safety incidents and prepare detailed reports. Recommend and follow up on corrective and preventive actions arising from safety incidents. Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks and awareness training for drivers and staff. Ensure the proper use of PPE and other required safety equipment. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, accidents and corrective actions. Conduct routine safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Work with the Fleet and Maintenance teams to ensure vehicles are safe and fit for operation. Support emergency preparedness and response procedures. Report safety violations, hazards and critical incidents promptly to management. Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports for management. Promote a strong safety culture across NG-Ride and ensure employees understand and follow safety procedures

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Transport Management, or a related field. Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in HSE, safety, transportation, logistics, fleet management, or a related role. Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ISPON, or equivalent is an added advantage. Good knowledge of road safety, risk assessment, accident investigation and HSE procedures. Experience working in a transportation, haulage or fleet environment is an advantage. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and safety reporting. Strong communication, observation, problem-solving and reporting skills. Ability to conduct safety inspections, audits and toolbox meetings. Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies. Willingness to travel to operational locations when required. Must be disciplined, proactive, safety-conscious and able to enforce safety standards professionally.
