Role Overview
The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing the full spectrum of quantity surveying functions, including tendering, cost estimation, procurement support, contract administration, project budgeting, claims management, and cost control. The role requires close coordination with project teams, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered within budget, on schedule, and in compliance with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering & Cost Management
- Obtain quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and contractors, and conduct cost comparisons to ensure competitive pricing.
- Manage and execute tendering processes, including cost estimation, quantity take-offs, and preparation of tender submissions.
- Prepare project costing, budgetary, and cash flow forecasts for management approval.
- Evaluate contract requirements, identify potential risks and liabilities, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Monitor and control project costs to ensure expenditure remains within approved budgets.
- Provide value engineering recommendations on materials, specifications, and work methods during tender and project execution stages.
- Ensure all tenders, quotations, and related submissions are completed accurately and within stipulated deadlines.
Contract Administration & Procurement
- Negotiate and finalize agreements with suppliers and subcontractors, securing favorable commercial terms while minimizing project risks.
- Award contracts and prepare all related contractual documentation.
- Source and procure materials, equipment, and related products required for project execution.
- Assist Project Managers (PMs) and Facility Managers (FMs) in procurement planning and preparation of procurement schedules.
- Gather material specifications and supporting documents for sample board submissions.
Claims & Payment Management
- Prepare, submit, and monitor progress claims and final accounts to clients and consultants.
- Follow up with consultants on payment certifications and ensure timely submission of tax invoices.
- Monitor payment collections and maintain proper records of outstanding receivables.
- Verify, evaluate, and certify claims submitted by suppliers, subcontractors, and contractors.
Project Coordination & Reporting
- Attend site inspections, tender briefings, progress meetings, and other project-related meetings as required.
- Coordinate with project teams to prepare quotations and ensure project schedules align with contractual commitments.
- Provide regular updates on project budgets, costs, claims status, and financial performance.
- Monitor project progress and report key developments, risks, and issues to the Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS), Project Director (PD), and management.
- Submit weekly reports on project costing, budget performance, and claim status.
- Attend weekly, fortnightly, and ad hoc management meetings as required.
Technical & Administrative Support
- Support project teams with quantity take-offs, cost estimates, material assessments, and technical documentation, including drawings where required.
- Manage all project-related correspondence and documentation in an organized and timely manner.
- Participate actively in special projects, process improvement initiatives, and other administrative duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure all outgoing quotations, contractual documents, and formal correspondence are reviewed and approved by the immediate superior before issuance.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management in support of business and operational requirements.
