English & Literature Teacher

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education (English & Literature) or BA in English with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Diploma in Education (PGDE), or equivalent teaching qualification from a recognized university. A Master’s degree in English Language or Literature is a significant advantage.
• Mandatory Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience specifically teaching the British National

Curriculum.

• Evidence of successfully preparing candidates for IGCSE (First Language English 0500) and AS/A Level (9093) with a history of high performance.

Core Skills & Competencies

• The ability to teach students how to deconstruct complex unseen texts and evaluate literary movements.
• Deep familiarity with mark schemes and examiner thinking. They should be able to

provide feedback that moves a student from a B to an A*.

• Skill in supporting both high-performers and those for whom English may be a strong second language, ensuring all reach the First Language standard.
• Proficiency in using technology (ClassDojo, Google Classroom, Canvas, Kahoot, etc) and educational tools like Turnitin for plagiarism checks.

• High emotional intelligence, exceptional public speaking, and the ability to mentor

students through the high-pressure A-Level years.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.
• Identify and report any concerns regarding a student’s physical, emotional, or mental well-being to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately.

• Ensure a safe learning environment by maintaining professional boundaries and

following strict protocols.
