Sanctions and Financial Crime Intelligence Manager
The role
One prohibited relationship, one missed match, and the bank is exposed in a way that's very hard to walk back. You own the framework that prevents that: the screening, the watch lists, the escalation calls on a potential match, and the team that runs it day to day. It's exacting work, and it has to be, because sanctions risk doesn't give second chances.
What you'll do
Manage the sanctions team, including work allocation, performance management, and staff development
Maintain the sanctions & TFS framework in line with applicable regulatory requirements
Oversee sanctions screening and related controls across relevant customers, transactions, and other applicable parties
Oversee the management and maintenance of applicable sanctions and watch lists, ensuring timely implementation of relevant updates
Oversee the effectiveness and performance of sanctions screening systems and related controls
Oversee the assessment and escalation of potential sanctions matches and related cases
Monitor sanctions risk exposure and the effectiveness of sanctions controls
Identify sanctions-related risks, emerging developments, and relevant typologies, ensuring appropriate consideration within the financial crime framework
Provide sanctions risk input to new products, services, and material changes
Maintain appropriate sanctions-related records, reporting, and regulatory correspondence
Escalate material sanctions risks in line with the approved escalation framework
What we're looking for
7+ years of financial crime/AML experience, with significant experience in sanctions, TFS, and sanctions screening, including supervisory or management experience
Strong knowledge of sanctions risk management, sanctions screening, and sanctions screening systems
Knowledge of sanctions and watch-list management, including relevant regulatory and list-update requirements
Knowledge of CBE/EMLCU requirements, FATF standards, and relevant international sanctions regimes, including OFAC, EU, and UK sanctions
A relevant AML/financial crime or sanctions qualification is preferred
You'll thrive here if you
You'd rather escalate a borderline match than clear it to keep the queue moving
You treat a watch-list update as time-sensitive, not something that can wait until tomorrow
You can explain a sanctions decision clearly enough that a regulator never has to ask twice
You want to own the control that keeps the bank out of relationships it can never afford to be in
