Port Captain (Landing Craft)
Port Captain – Landing Craft Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Port Captain with hands-on experience managing Landing Craft operations. The role will be responsible for overseeing vessel operations, ensuring safe and efficient voyages, maintaining operational readiness and coordinating closely with Masters, crews, clients, port authorities and shore-based teams. Key Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day operational performance of the company’s Landing Craft fleet, ensuring vessels operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with company procedures. Monitor vessel movements, voyages, cargo operations, loading/unloading activities and port calls. Work closely with Masters and vessel crews to ensure safe navigation, cargo handling and overall operational readiness. Coordinate with clients, charterers, agents, terminals, port authorities and other stakeholders to ensure smooth vessel operations. Ensure vessels comply with Flag State, Class, Port State Control and applicable maritime regulations. Conduct regular vessel inspections and operational audits to identify safety, maintenance and performance issues. Monitor vessel condition and coordinate with the Technical and Maintenance teams on repairs, preventive maintenance and dry-docking requirements. Review voyage plans, risk assessments, cargo requirements and operational procedures before vessel deployment. Ensure proper management of cargo, particularly project cargo, construction materials, vehicles, equipment and other deck cargo carried by Landing Craft. Investigate incidents, near misses and operational deficiencies, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions. Monitor vessel schedules, fuel consumption, operational costs and overall fleet performance. Support crew management, including crew welfare, performance and competency requirements. Provide regular operational reports and updates to senior management on vessel performance, safety and commercial operations. Assist the Commercial and Operations teams with vessel deployment, charter requirements and operational planning. Requirements Current or previous Navy individual's candidate are highly encouraged to apply Diploma/Degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, Marine Operations or a related field. Relevant sea-going and shore-based experience, with strong exposure to Landing Craft, barges, workboats or similar vessels. Strong understanding of Landing Craft operations, cargo handling, stability and port operations. Good knowledge of maritime safety, ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL and relevant Flag State and Port State requirements. Strong leadership, communication and coordination skills.
